Conflicted Tour Stop!!

When you think about your life are there things you would reverse?

Derek Scott is the twenty-six year old drummer of Battlescars. With a past marred by tragedy, he has a hard time letting people in. He's also made his share of mistakes. Now, he's trying to come to terms with the choices he has made recently and what they mean for him.

When someone from his past comes back into his life, Derek thinks maybe he can get back on track. However, things unravel, leaving him more unclear than ever. When long kept secrets find him and force him to decide what really matters in his life, will he be able to choose a path - or will he always be conflicted?

I have read and enjoyed the two other books in this series.  Do yourself a favor if you haven’t already and read those books, I think you need to in order to get the full enjoyment out of this one!
Conflicted is about Battlescars Drummer, Derek.  Personally, I like drummers…they’re the dark heroes of the rock band.  Mysterious behind that drum kit, but with a lot of stamina that I’m sure lends itself well to *ahem* other activities.  But I digress…Derek has a pretty dark past.  He doesn’t trust people, and for good reason.  Joss is immature and impulsive, which seems (and kind of is) a poor compliment to Derek.  They’ve known each other a long time and have a friends with benefits arrangement.  Joss if one of the few people who knows Derek’s secrets, and she wants to help him. Their story together is cray-zay…as any good rock-n-roll story should be!
A few things about this story.  One, it’s told from about 5 different points of view, which I’m still not sure was a good thing.  It’s a lot different than the previous books in how it is set up in this respect, but I don’t’ really feel that it added to the story to be told from so many viewpoints. Second, others love interests are introduced for Derek and Joss, and it didn’t feel genuine to the story for me, it really felt a bit forced.  Also, I really don’t think I like Derek.  I mean, sure, he’s had a tough go of things, but he seems soooo heartless.  Not to mention one of the major things that happened to Derek in his past felt a bit glossed over and not addressed to this reader’s satisfaction.  Perhaps if it had I would have walked away from this story with a bit more understanding of Derek’s asshatness.  As it stands, he’s still not redeemed himself in my eyes.
I will say that even though there were some things about the story I didn’t personally like, Sophie can write.  I mean, this book was kind of like watching a train wreck in that you just can’t look away.  The characters may not resonate with me, and I may or may not have wanted to slap Joss around a bit, but at the end of the day, the story kept my interest.  I will read the other book in this series for sure, but I’m only going to give this one 3 stars.
