As a small child Shawn stood at his bedroom window staring above the tree line watching the odd shooting lights in the nighttime sky. Remembering his mom’s comment about making a wish upon a shooting star Shawn—there in the dead of night—made a wish.
This 60 page novella is about the life from a boy to a man
named Shawn. We start the story when Shawn is small boy looking out a window
and making a wish on the bright lights he sees. Later in life he sees these
lights again and again. After he returns home from college and working, he’s
fathers passing and he’s mother wanting to sell up and move away has forced
this move. He once again encounters these lights but this time they have a
surprise, an alien named Ziang. Ziang has been watching Shawn from he’s early
childhood and has now decided it’s time to take him as a mate. Problem is when
Ziang lands other people saw these lights as well. Now they have a race on their hands.
This was an interesting story about a man that really never
settled into adult life and couldn’t figure out why until an alien crash landed
in his back yard. These two MC have good chemistry and we have good build up of
the characters for the next book. I enjoyed that even though, Ziang and Shawn
have had a connection Shawn just didn’t jump at the chance and leave. He still
needed convincing. Even though we didn’t end with a cliffy, you know the story
isn’t done. And you must read in order. Not a fan of being ‘told’ what to read,
in what order or you won’t get it.
A small tow-headed child
stood in his footed pajamas at his second-story bedroom window staring above
the tree line, his large, chocolate brown eyes wide. Bright lights moved in odd
circles in the distance.
“Cool.”
One light suddenly took a hard right turn and headed in his direction, moving fast. Brightness lit up his room, framing Shawn in the window. He blinked and shaded his eyes, but was unable to see anything.
The hair on his body stood up and his small hand clenched the curtains. He was afraid, but he didn’t feel threatened. The white light changed to a pale yellow, then returned to bright white. Seconds later, the light was gone and he stood in the dark again. The other lights shot off across the sky, heading away from him. All except for one; it hovered close to his house for several moments before it left, too. As he released the curtain, he remembered his mom commenting about making a wish upon a shooting star.
He shrugged his
shoulders. “Why not?”
There, in the dead of
night, Shawn made a wish. The first time he saw the lights in the
nighttime sky he was six.

Church is a true Southern belle who spent many years in the elementary
education sector. Now she spends her days lost in fantasy worlds, arguing with
hardheaded aliens on far-off planets, herding her numerous shifters, or trying
to tempt her country boys away from their fishing poles. It’s a full time job,
but hey, someone’s gotta do it!
When
not writing, she’s exploring the latest M/M novel to hit the market, watching
her beloved Steelers, or sitting glued to HGTV. That’s if she’s not on the back
porch tending to the demanding wildlife around the pond in the backyard. The
ducks are very outspoken. She’s
married to her high school sweetheart, and they have two children.
