give is a virtue. But to give your very self, the ultimate bequest.
Offered in love, it can be wondrous. Offered in desperation, it can
be deadly.
In Book Two of this three-part epic,
young and tempting Kate Simmons at last seemed to have reached a safe
haven of happiness when she moved in with Neil, ambitious and
persevering, both in his legal practice and his love life. Taking
great care to protect his trophy and the surprise he had in mind for
Kate, Neil hired security to accompany his soon-to-be fiancรฉe on a
scavenger hunt of a lifetime. As Book Three continues their saga, it
is life itself that is in the balance when Kate becomes the hunted as
the jilted Roger snatches his prey.
The obsessed minds of Neil and Roger
now take aim squarely at each other รข€" with a bare and
exposed Kate directly in the crossfire. Knowing her very life will be
the winner’s spoil, Kate stares agony in its ghastly face as it
approaches for the death dance.
There is no time, no place, no safety
in a war of fixation. A war in which the winner will be either the
last one standing, or the last one to die.
WOW. That is the first word that comes to mind
when I think about this book after finishing it. This whole series has been one that had
grabbed my attention from the start and I just didn’t want to put the books
down. I think one thing I enjoyed about
these books is how they are not the “norm” for books currently out there now.
There
is sex in these books, but the sex in them doesn’t have a huge role in the
story in general. I honestly think that
if there was no sex in these books, they would be even better. My only complaint when it comes to this
series as a whole is how “wordy” the books were. There were times where I found myself wanting
to skim over some of the paragraphs just because they didn’t seem to actually
need to be there.
This is
the final book in the adventure that Kate has been taken on since she moved out
on her own. We have followed along with
her when she realized that Roger is a serial killer, and is willing to kill to
be with her. When she met Neil and
started a relationship with him. Through
her father’s death and finding out what her mother did to her and her brother
as children. And lastly, when Roger
kidnaps her and….. Yup that’s right,
that’s how the second book leaves us, but the third book starts up.
It was
really great reading this book because Roger had such a major role in this
book. You could see as he slowly was
losing his grip on reality and that was really interesting to watch. Kate’s character didn’t seem to really change
any during the course of the books. Obviously,
she was afraid, but besides that she didn’t grow any in my opinion. Neil stayed the same as well, he was there
for her when she needed him and that was about it.
Overall
though I do have to say that this series is a must read. Especially since it’s so different than
anything I have read recently, I think that people should give it a shot!
Carlie lives with her handsome husband in Southern California. They enjoy the relaxed lifestyle that California provides. They have two beautiful dogs, but no children.
