Tbird's Thoughts on both books!
I
was totally blown away by these two books. By looking at the title and
cover, I went in thinking this was going to be a story about a dude who rides
skate boards, how am I ever going to connect to this character. It didn't
take long for me to realize I had judge a book by its cover and thank God I
read the story because it was absolutely fabulous. The author gave us
four characters, each so unique and interesting, yet they come together to form
a family. I ended the second book jealous that I couldn't pick up and
move there and be part of their little group. I was thrilled to know
there are two more books coming soon, so my new little adopted family will
continue on.
Hindley
Hagen, oh she is so precious. Being raised by a single mom till this mom found
her rich Prince Charming, became part of a blended family. Her step
father took her in from day one and made her his little princess, but the step
sister wasn't so accepting. Geneva made it her mission to try and screw
up Hindley's life any way she could. Now as an adult Hindley has a law
degree, her own place and as the story starts out, a step sister who is getting
married. On the final night before the wedding Hindley goes out to party
with the step sister and her friends at her step fathers request. She was
supposed to keep Geneva out of trouble, but instead she ended up in the alley
drunk off her butt and needing to be rescued from a jerk........in walks Skater
Boy.
Rory
Gregor watched Drunk Girl and knew he should mind his own business. He was
at the club to pick up a one nighter and get drunk, have some fun and move on
to the next day, but something about that girl, throwing up in the alley with a
jerk trying to get her in a cab drew him in. He went and became her
rescuer, found where she lived and stayed with her that night. As you
might say the rest of history; but not a smooth road for them.
Hindly
later became Rory's lawyer concerning his career that he was trying to reclaim.
After a few years of bad choices and old baggage he had to make a come
back in the world of skating. Hindley was on a mission to help him with
that, but she was falling in love with him. Rory had an abusive childhood and a
life time of secrets that he wasn't going to let Hindley find out about, little
did he know she had her own closet of secrets and invisible chains that kept
her from letting people get close.
This
is a story of two broken, terrified young adults, trying to do their best to be
survivors in a world that no one prepared them for. Love, betrayal, lies
and evil people like Geneva who wants to hurt them, all litter their road to
happiness. Will Rory and Hindley be strong enough to trust each other and
navigate their way through to a happy ending, or will they decide they aren't
worth the fight and give up. Will they be able to come clean with their
hidden shame or will the fear of exposure be enough for them to never give love
and acceptance a try?
I
can't stress enough that these books are NOT just about X games and the sport,
that is but a small portion of the story. This is about two people who
seriously deserve to find happiness and love and the courage they had to go for
it. The love they found with each other to overcome all the negative
things they had to hear and endure just to get to a place they could feel
accepted and loved. There is some tense moments, competitions and moments
that melts your heart and make you reach for the tissues. I was glued to
the story as soon as I finished the first chapter. The author writes this
in a way that sucks you in and draws you closer to the characters. I had
a difficult time putting the books down once I started. Dana, Hindley's
friend had me laughing and wishing I could be more like her with each turn of
the page. Leif, Rory's friend, had me falling in love with him even
though I know now that is pointless, but he is just a heart melting character
who I want to find happiness soon. I was very impressed with Kay Manis'
ability to bring these characters to life and entertain me while also exposing important
issues that society loves to hide. Please make sure you get both of the
Skater Boy's books and be ready for the next books in this series. You
will NOT want to be excluded from this group as they conquer the world.

SKATER BOY (X-Treme Boys Series, Book 1)
--Hindley--
Sensing my anxiety, Skater Boy headed toward my bedroom door but I didn’t want him to leave, not yet. I had an overwhelming need to touch him so I reached out and caught him by the arm. His muscles were defined and hard and I held on longer than I should have. His eyes looked down at my hand then back up to me.
“Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for last night. I really appreciate you taking care of me,” I said. I could see him working hard, trying to figure out if I was telling the truth or not. I’d been right about his height. He was tall, over six feet, but my five foot eight stature seemed to match his perfectly.
“Why do I feel like that might have been one of the hardest things you’ve ever had to do?” I raised my eyebrows in disbelief, shocked at how well he already knew me. I prided myself on not needing anything from anyone, so words of gratitude from me were few and far between.
“Probably because it was,” I answered, pushing past him and through the door on my way to the bathroom, feeling every bit as vulnerable now that I was fully dressed as I did lying next to him in nothing but my underwear. Somewhere deep inside, I wished I was back there, though, back in bed with him, relishing how beautiful he was.
MY SKATER BOY (X-Treme Boys Series, Book 2)
--Rory--
Today was the day I’d dreaded forever, the day I realized I was the source of Hindley’s pain and anguish. It truly was me I had to protect her from, not all the others threatening to harm her. The only way I could do that now was to leave her alone. I bolted out of the elevator, running to my room as fast as I could, afraid I may actually vomit in the hallway before getting to the bathroom. Losing Hindley wasn’t an option, but the choice wasn’t mine to make. Suddenly, that one realization, the fact I was no longer in control, scared me more than anything I’d ever known.
