I don’t read a lot of m/m books, but when I saw rock star in the description for this one I knew I had to read it. I’m glad I did, too. It was HOT!

Sawyer Knight is the lead singer of the hit group “Souls of Knight”. He’s playing the part of bad boy rocker, with women and partying, but deep inside he’s just going through the motions. There is something missing from his life. Enter Jake. They were once best friends, and Jake wanted more but Sawyer wanted none of it. 10 years later, they are reunited when Jake becomes Sawyer’s bodyguard. All the old feelings resurface, and this time Sawyer doesn’t seem as afraid of them, and Jake is determined not to give up. Can they find love together? Will Sawyer survive an outside threat?

I think the thing I enjoyed the most about this book is the characters. Sawyer, especially, was painted very well for me as the reader. He has a lot of turmoil, and is afraid to fully embrace the feelings he has inside. Thus, he has overcompensated with women. When Jake re-enters his life, it’s like the layers start to get peeled back and he starts to tap into what can truly make him happy, even if he is a bit afraid to go there. He’s a really complicated but strong character that I very much enjoyed reading about.

The plot of this book, even if it had the slight twist from my usual in being m/m, was just ok. It isn’t anything I haven’t read before, but I enjoyed it all the same. I think it was meant to be suspenseful in places, but I didn’t have a hard time figuring out what was going on. Perhaps I’m over-read, but I would say the plot was the weakest part of this book for me.

Overall, I did enjoy following the story of Jake and Sawyer. They were sweet, and Jake was completely alpha badass hot which is wonderful no matter how you slice it. I found myself enjoying this very much. 4 stars.

I really had no expectations when I started this book. I knew it was an M/M romance involving the front man of a rock group and his former friend who is now a security expert, but other than that I just picked up the book and began reading. From the Prologue I was sucked into Sawyer’s story and I knew it was not going to be your run-of-the-mill rock star romance. This became more apparent when Jake re-enters Sawyer’s life and Ms. Haken proceeds to weave a thoroughly enjoyable romance with a touch of suspense and a whole lotta love (yep, I went there).

Being Sawyer Knight is the first book in the Souls of the Knight series. As the lead singer, it’s no surprise that Sawyer is the subject of the first book and I pretty much adored him instantly. From the outside, he has the perfect life, he’s rich, he’s famous, he’s hot and he’s adored by millions world-wide, but Sawyer knows that while adoration is great, it doesn’t fill that hole in his heart and he longs to find that person who is destined to make him whole. Little did he know, he’d already met and rejected that person, but luckily for Sawyer and the reader, Jake is dead-set on making Sawyer his this time around. And Sawyer learns what we readers already know, there is nothing sexier than a confident alpha male who is set on getting what he wants, especially when what he wants is you. This makes for some extremely intense scenes as Sawyer is confronted with indecision regarding his sexuality. As for the sex scenes, they are OH! MY! GOD! hot once Sawyer embraces his feelings for Jake.

Ms. Haken has kicked off her new series with a beautifully written and equally sexy romance about two men who get a second chance at love. The cast of characters that are included are an added bonus that enrich this book and make you want to read the next book in the series just so you can spend more time with them. I know I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

He’s still living so far back in the closet if he were to stumble he’d end up in fucking Narnia. He’s still afraid, scared to go after what he wants.

Good job I’m not. I’ve grown into a determined man – a confident man. I get what I want, always. And I will be getting Sawyer Knight.
