Throwback: Masters at Arms & Nobody's Angel by Kallypso Masters

MASTERS AT ARMS begins the journey of three men, each on a quest for honor, acceptance, and to ease his unspoken pain. Their paths cross at one of the darkest points in their lives. As they try to come to terms with the aftermath--forging an unbreakable bond--will they ever truly become masters of their own fates? Or would fate become master of them?

NOBODY'S ANGEL: Marc d’Alessio might co-own a private kink club with his fellow military veterans, Adam and Damian, but he keeps all women at a distance. When Marc rescues Angelina Giardano from a disastrous first experience at his club, however, an uncharacteristic attraction leaves him torn between his safe, but lonely world, and a possible future with his angel.

Angelina leaves the club behind only to have her dreams plagued by the Italian angel in a wolf mask who rescued her. When she meets Marc at a bar in her hometown, she can’t shake the feeling she knows him, but has no idea why he reminds her of her angel. While trying to protect Angelina from her abusive ex, though, Marc once again finds her at the Masters at Arms Club where she turns his safe, controlled world upside down.

ABOUT THE RESCUE ME SAGA: The books in the ongoing Rescue Me Saga are not stand-alone stories and should be read in order, beginning with the books in this volume. Characters will recur in later books to deal with old and new issues in their lives as the saga continues, and each book builds upon all previous ones. Sometimes main characters even need another book to help resolve deep-seated issues affecting their relationships.

BONUS MATERIAL in this version: Kallypso Masters has added the PLAYLIST of music that inspired her as she wrote about the first three couples mentioned in this combined volume, as well as a GLOSSARY OF TERMS and a CAST OF CHARACTERS in these books in the saga.

CONTENT WARNING: Readers with a history of abuse are warned that, due to the emotional way in which the author presents the subject matter (past and present), the books might cause triggers while reading. Please read the Author's Notes at the beginnings of each book before reading further. The books in this saga are intended for mature adult readers who are not offended by profanity and graphic sex scenes. Note, however, that this saga is NOT erotica. The primary focus is on the development of the characters and the unfolding of their life stories.

It has been well over a year since I read either of these novels, but I have read both of them multiple times (along with most of the books in the series). As such, I will strive not to reveal spoilers for future books while trying to explain exactly how much I LOVE this series and why I jumped at the chance to reread them when I stink at writing reviews for books I’ve read multiple times.

Masters at Arms – 5 stars

The first time I read Masters at Arms, I had “bought” it as a Kindle freebie. This was another one of my early forays into the BDSM genre and that Ms. Masters chose the make her Alpha Doms ex-military certainly got my attention. As the series prequel, each chapter/section is sort of a vignette as to how several of the series’ main characters meet. The book’s style is not one that typically appeals to me, yet Ms. Masters managed to give me enough background on each of the characters that she enticed me to buy and read Nobody’s Angel and Nobody’s Hero immediately after I finished reading it. As this is a combo novel, I need no excuse to rush off now to re-read Nobody’s Angel.

Nobody’s Angel – 5 stars

Despite having read Nobody’s Angel several times, I still find myself responding to different parts of the story as if it were my first time reading it – cringing at Angelina’s first experience with BDSM, being seduced right alongside Angelina by Luke and Marc, confusion at Luke’s distance, frustration with Marc (take your pick of scenes), fear during the abduction scene, and heartbreak when Angelina and her siblings find out the truth of what happened the day their father died. Ms. Masters hooked me with Masters at Arms, but she reeled me in with Nobody’s Angel. She does an amazing job of penning wonderfully erotic sex scenes and weaving them into the story so that her books move seamlessly from scene to scene without leaving me with the contrived-scene taste in my mouth. I absolutely love this series and look forward to setting time aside to reread the rest of the books in the series, especially Nobody’s Hero which may very well be my favorite book in the series. Thank you Ms. Masters for creating such an addictive cast of characters.
Kallypso Masters writes emotional, realistic Romance novels with an emphasis on healing using sometimes unconventional methods. Her alpha males are dominant and attracted to strong women who can bring them to their knees. Kally also has brought many readers to their knees—having them experience the stories right along with her characters in the Rescue Me Saga. Kally knows that Happily Ever After takes maintenance, so her couples don’t solve all their problems and disappear at “the end” of their Romance, but will continue to work on real problems in their relationships in later books in the saga.
Kally has been writing full-time since May 2011, having quit her “day job” the month before. She lives in rural Kentucky and has been married for more than 30 years to the man who provided her own Happily Ever After. They have two adult children, one adorable grandson, and a rescued dog.
She enjoys meeting readers, although plans for 2015 are to hunker down and write more books. She will be attending RomCon in Colorado in September 2015 and conducting a sightseeing tour of the places she writes about the weekend before that event. She also plans to have her second KallypsoCon with a focus on military romances in October or November 2015 in the New England area.
