Brandy Rivers Spotlight!

My name is Brandy L Rivers. I’m a wife and mother of three with an overactive imagination. I’ve been obsessed with monsters and magic for pretty much ever.  So I decided to write the stories that keep me awake at night.

 Website || Facebook || Twitter ||
 Goodreads || Amazon

You asked what Paranormal creature I would be. I’m assuming that goes for caster types too.
I would have to say druids, more specifically my druids. They shift, they cast, and they can do some pretty amazing things when pushed too far.
Take Fallon O’Shea. She shows up in Edenton and pulls so many amazing abilities out of her bag of tricks, she manages to gain everyone’s respect. When Brody, the werewolf enforcer and motorcycle mechanic crashes into her, she saves him. She manages to heal him, which even surprises herself. Killing the vampires was pretty much standard for her. She took them out with a combination of spells and fighting skills.
Most druids are faster than most things out there. They each have their own combination of elemental magic, mostly toward earth and air. They have a resistance to most spells, but cast some pretty wicked ones of their own. I mentioned they shift right? Can you imagine being able to be any animal you wanted? Fallon can easily shift into a wolf, cat, adder, hawk and various other creatures at will.
Her shifting comes in handy in multiple places, and unlike wereanimals, her clothes stay on since it’s purely magic that causes the shift.
Her wards are stronger than just about anything out there. In fact she’s a tattoo artist by trade. She works spells into the tattoo that protect and even boost some abilities. Fallon is also one of the few people who can create mana-blades. They are magical blades that are tattooed into the skin and can be drawn at will. If the caster loses the weapon, it disappears in a burst of light to go back into the owner’s skin. Who wouldn’t want a weapon they can’t actually lose?
Her and her mentor can both cast some pretty amazing wards into tattoos. When Fallon’s sleeping, Gabriel’s protection brings her ink to life. You can see the trees swaying in the breeze, animals move, birds fly. The sky changes from night to day. These aren’t your average tattoos.
When it comes to fighting, Fallon thinks outside the box. She keeps herself in shape because she’s surrounded by Others that can be faster, stronger, and harder to kill than her. However, she holds her own blending all of her talents together with quick thinking to use her opponent’s strength against them.
She’s also seen just about everything, so she knows what to expect by various creatures. Typically, she can sense what everyone is. It’s almost like a radar, telling her what kind of Other is near. Some creatures of mixed blood are a little harder to figure out, but she can usually get an idea of what to expect from the energy they use.
That’s another thing she can do. To enhance her spells she can draw from the left over energy from Others, and even humans to create more potent spells. Fallon likes to draw energy from everything around her to push more power into her own attacks, or even protection.
Druids can be a force to be reckoned with. There are various types and different strengths of course. Fallon may suck at healing, but there are druids who can heal quite well. Others focus on one strength.
So yeah, if I had to pick a paranormal type to be, it would hands down be a druid. Though mages aren’t have bad either.

Diane Rinella Spotlight!

Enjoying San Francisco as a backdrop, the ghosts in Diane’s 150-year old Victorian home augment the chorus in her head. With insomnia as their catalyst, these voices have become multifarious characters that haunt her well into the sun’s crowning hours, refusing to let go until they have manipulated her into succumbing to their whims. Her experiences as an actress, business owner, artisan cake designer, software project manager, Internet radio disc jockey, vintage rock n’ roll journalist/fan girl, and lover of dark and quirky personalities influence her idiosyncratic writing.

Why I Dig Ghosts
By Diane Rinella

(Get it? Come on, that title is funny! Okay, maybe not.)

Ghost used to appear frequently in literature as mysterious creatures. Today they are almost a joke that is thrown in when all else fails. Did you write yourself into a hole by killing off the only person who knows where the life-saving vial of antidote is buried? Summon his ghost. Can’t find your keys? Blame your unseen housemate. Feeling lame for pinching some hot guy’s gorgeous ass? Clearly the cafรฉ you are in is haunted.
Ghosts are real, just ask anyone who owns a Victorian-era home or who has worked in structure built before World War II. I used to work in a candy shop that has been in existence for over sixty years. While there were certainly naysayers among us, several workers had seen, and could provide nearly identical descriptions of, apparitional women whom would manifest randomly. Whenever I would work early mornings, a bun-haired woman in a white blouse and blue skirt would stand at the end of the kitchen and watch as I decorated confections. I would talk to her, though she never spoke back. I often wondered her story. How endearing would be if she were seeking the love she left behind? Maybe her grandson worked there and she was watching out for him. The possibilities were endless.
The author in me sees that ghosts can totally be messed with. I can pop Genghis Kahn into modern day San Francisco among drag queens, and it’s totally acceptable. I can also take a character who had a pacifist demeanor while alive (similar to say, Ghandi,) and have them be brutally murdered by an evil creature who came into their home and slaughtered their family as they watched, only to then rip out that person’s veins one by one until they died in agony. I can then use that as an excuse to spin their personality into one more nefarious. (Ah! The art of authorly manipulation is a beautiful thing!)
Then there is the personal side. Any one from history can haunt me. I mean, if I told you that Vincent Moratta (the inventor of Mr. Coffee) hung out with me on a regular basis, could you really dispute it?
Lastly, let us not lose site of what is really important. Unlike turning into a werewolf or shape shifter, becoming a ghost is an obtainable goal, for which you should be grateful. You know how it is when you are trying to leave town for Thanksgiving but know that at the end of the long drive you are stuck dealing with your parents? You wouldn’t exactly mind staying behind a little longer to gas up the car, would you? Why would traveling after death be any different? Simply go ghostly, hang out, and catch a movie (or five hundred) first. Better yet, go pop in on your favorite celebrity and watch him in the shower. If you can master the art of touch, go ahead, make his day.

In my next novel, Scary Modsters… and Creepy Freaks, the ghost of a rock star gets summoned by his fangirl and love blooms. With all that we know about ghosts, who’s to say it can’t happen?

MC Houle Spotlight!

MC HouleEven though becoming a writer hadn’t always been a dream of mine, creating characters and telling their stories has been the landscape of my early childhood. Characters who would live swirling in my mind, sometimes to be acted out with my two younger sisters or my friends and sometimes just to be there when I got bored. After I discovered Harry Potter fan fiction at 13-14, I wrote my own for the enjoyment of a mostly French readership. Reading my first slash fan fiction awoke an interest for everything LGBT*QIAect… that subside to this day. Some years later, I took a college almost-break to pursuit a ‘real life’ degree in biomedical and started a job in a hospital laboratory. And then in mid-2010, with the advent of nanowrimo and the discovery of HollyLisle’s “How to think Sideways” writing class, I went back to my forgotten passion of stories with the added goal of publication.

I was surprised when the answer came to me with such clarity and certitude.  With all the creatures out there ranging from vampire to mythology and everything the human mind have created, the choice should have been somewhat arduous.
Thing is.  I know which creature I`d like to be, and I’ve known this for a long time.
My strongest high school oral presentation was about werewolves.  I ate the research like you wouldn’t believe.  They were nothing like the modern werewolf.  They were the stuff of nightmare.  Blood thirsty creatures who’ll kill you before you can scream.  Not something I would want to be.  Today’s werewolves can control the beast and tend to runs in pack. There is something interesting about the unit they form, which is somewhat strange for me to envy as I am more of a lone person.  In that vein, my favourite fictional characters include Remus Lupin, I don’t miss one episode of Teen Wolf and one of the first series I read when I discovered there was actual book in the M/M genre out there was the With or Without Series by J.L. Langley.
But shape shifting doesn’t begin and end with werewolves.  One of my other guilty pleasures is a good old body-swap story. As a tween, I had that fantasy where I had some sort of guardian angel who could take my conscience and exchange it for someone else.  In a new body, I could experiment another life.  Interestingly, the fantasy had a time limit; after a while, the angel would need me to choose whether I wanted to keep that life or take back mine.  And of course, once the choice was made, I wouldn’t remember the angel.  And of course as I’m writing this, I realise how fucked up the fantasy was, and how it testify of stronger self-image issues.
And for something similar with werewolf, some creatures have the abilities to change from human form to human form.  A good example of this is in the movie Zerophilia which I watch some five years ago.   It follows an insecure young man you discovers he has the genetic ability to change into the girl version of himself every time he has an orgasm.  In my point of view, the main character loses a lot of time attempting to regain his old life, when really he should have enjoyed all the possibilities.  Of course I’m bias by my own life and desires, and he has his own backstory.
So yeah, if I had to be one supernatural creature, I’ll be some sort of shape shifter.  Preferably from human to human, but shape shifting is shape shifting, and it’s cool either way.  I would have this double life.  It’ll be hard, and I may need to find myself a Time lord to add hours to the days, but I’ll enjoy myself.

Glenna Maynard Spotlight!

Glenna Maynard is the author of the bestselling romantic suspense novel I'm with You. A mother by day and writer by night, when Glenna isn't writing or spending time with family you can usually find her curled up reading a great book.
Glenna was born and raised in the beautiful hills of Eastern Ky where she still resides today. Her hobbies include reading, writing, scrap-booking,and cooking.

If I had the opportunity to be any type of character featured in paranormal romance books I would be a witch. Some of you might be asking why, considering I have an undying love for vampires.

I guess you could say I have been fascinated with witches since I was a young girl. I can't pin point one particular moment where it all started but I remember loving the movie 'The Worst Witch' and there was 'The Craft,' 'Charmed' and more recently 'The Secret Circle.'  I loved them all, but I have always felt drawn to Wicca and have toyed with the idea of writing a paranormal romance about a witch.

My curiosity has even brought me to owning the encyclopedia of witches. Some people still associate witches with evil and dark things but for me personally I associate them with natural healing and a love of the earth. Though if I do write a paranormal there will be dark magic in it. You can't have good without evil to balance it all out.

My five amazeballs stars review of Carpe Noctem (Sanguis City #2) by Morgan Jane Mitchell

When Morgan offered me the chance to read an exclusive advanced copy of the second book in the Sanguis City series, I jumped at the opportunity. I have been dying to know what was next for Noir.
I can happily say many of the questions I had from book one have been answered, especially those pertaining to a wish. There's so much I want to talk about without giving the story away. There are some old faces and some new characters are introduced. I will tell you that there is Darius a witch, Ani a demon and Willow a creature I have never heard of.
So much comes out about the city and the vampires. I was really surprised with the twist and turns the story took. Noir found herself in some situations that had me scared for her at times while laughing at others. Did I mention the dark but hot turn the sex takes in this book? No, well trust me Quixon and Sander had me swooning one minute and ready to hit them the next.
New places are uncovered in the city too including a zombie sanitarium.  I found myself fully engrossed within the world Morgan Jane Mitchell has created and I am eagerly awaiting to see where book three will lead. I need it now!
