And now we come to book #3 of the Whyborne &
Griffin saga. This book takes a remarkable turn from the first two. In
Widdershins, Whyborne was a simpleton who kept to himself and thought he would
never be able to amount to anything. Until Griffin and the Arcanorum came into his life. In Threshold, we saw him grow as a
man. In Stormhaven, we see him grow as something other than just human.
A murder most foul is committed and Griffin and
Whyborne are set on trying to prove a man innocent. Only, the man’s been sent
to Stormhaven Asylum and Griffin’s memories of being in such a place make it
vastly difficult to go and do his work. When the head of the asylum turns out
to be the man who stated Griffin was mad and sent him away years ago, this case
turns out to be almost more than Griffin can take. Added to the fray, Griffin’s
parents come to call, with a cousin they think would make Griffin a perfect
wife.
As if that wasn’t enough to be going on,
something’s happening with Whyborne. Every night, he suffers through the same
aquatic nightmares. Something is calling to him. It wants him. And as his
dreams become daymares, it seems this thing may just take him. When Griffin’s
parents find out about their relationship and the aquatic being becomes one
with Whyborne, it seems Widdershins may suffer the fate it had been teetering
on for hundreds of years since Theron Blackbyrne first created it.
Only one thing stands between Widdershins and
total destruction. Will Griffin and Whyborne’s love be enough to conquer the
god that is set on destroying it? I’m not going to tell you ;) But it’s well
worth reading to find out. I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could.
