Shannon Kelly’s life has
been anything but typical. Her life has been altered viciously at the
hands of others twice. However horrible they have been, it’s these
changes that have given her a family and career…now possibly love. The
last thirteen years she has been supported and loved by her protector,
her entertainer, and her comforter, but never a lover. When Dylan
Kellerman enters Shannon’s life he changes its course in more ways than
one. He gives her hope and promise of a future she was convinced wasn’t
attainable. Just as she begins to believe she has finally turned her
life into something she can build a future on…blackness takes over.
I
had read Shrouded of Blackness (Blackness Series Book 3) and had to get my
hands on the first two books in this collection. The author had me
captivated by the characters and all of the drama she puts into her
books. Book 1 wasn’t involving the same plot line and people as I had
come to love in book 3 but she didn’t disappoint with an interesting group of
people and a cliff hanger that left me thankful I was going into book 2 right
away.
In
the beginning of this collection we meet Kid, also known as Shannon
Kelly. Life hadn’t been kind to her and did all it could to break her
down into a female victim but she didn’t play by those rules. After
becoming an orphan she was sent to her Uncles house where he taught her to be
independent and able to survive whatever crisis she faced in life. One of
the biggest achievements that she gained during that time was to never panic in
the middle of chaos. When at the age of 17 she began college she met
three men who would soon become her brothers. With her Uncle dying back
in Kansas of cancer and her going to school in Chicago, she had to keep her
past a secret so the state wouldn’t involve themselves in her life.
When
she went to her first party in college she let her guard down and the outcome
put her in trouble. Wounded and almost raped Kavy, Sully and Cally came
to her rescue and took her to their house. As they nursed her back to
health a family was born. Soon she saw no other option or way of life
than to live with them and be the missing piece each of them needed in their
world.
Soon
she met Dylan Kellerman, also known as Kel. It was going to be a battle
getting her three guys to accept Kel and for Kel to adjust to the fact she is
living with three men when they are intimate in every way but
sexual. The secrets they shared and the nonverbal conversations they have
with facial expressions and eyes, left Kel feeling like an outsider most of the
time.
Taylor
was there to be her body guard but he developed feelings for Kid as well.
While you won’t know what is truly going on with Taylor the author left us with
an air of uncertainty about his motives towards this group of people.
When Kel is faced with some information that Taylor dug up on him, he is truly
shocked at how his life was going to change in an instant. Would Kid
accept this news and still want him in her life, only way to find out is
getting through the three big brothers.
At
the end, some questions didn’t get answered for us because of the cliff hanger
but she did leave me wanting more. Now a bit about how I felt while
reading this book. I really adored that Kid wasn’t a weak woman, but she
did go overboard a few times with her attitude and denial of things she really
needed to address from her past. I loved how the boys treated her as a
little sister, even though they had no problem walking in on her when she was
nude and I really enjoyed watching the lives of the guys unfold so we could see
exactly what need Kid fit for each one. Although this book felt more like
the first half was an introduction to the new family, which there is plenty
more than I talked about and the action happened in the second half of the
book, I enjoyed the style the author used. I would recommend this for
anyone who loves a gritty group of people who don’t take no for an
answer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As he enters the room looking like death personified, lifeless and haunting, she knows…blackness awaits.
Aaron Kavanagh is not to be trifled with. He’s powerful, commanding, fierce and currently homicidal. The only thing that matters in Kavanagh’s world is Shannon Kelly. She’s the beat of his heart (yes he has one) and the peace to the fury that constantly simmers within him. Without her, his life is empty and barren. Someone took what is his and he’ll stop at nothing to get her back.
Dylan Kellerman is lost. The love of his life has been ripped from him, leaving a tattered tortured shell of a man. On the brink of murderous insanity he must battle to find Shannon, even if she hates him. Dylan has betrayed her and he knows she won’t forgive his indiscretions. None of that matters now. All that matters is finding her. As long as she’s safe Dylan can continue to live a sad wasted existence without her by his side. Shannon brought Dylan back to life, without her in the world he’ll cease to exist.
Shannon Kelly is gone. Stolen from her home and loved ones, she must now fight. Fighting has never been an issue for her, but this is a new opponent that she isn’t prepared for…her past. When every reality she thought she knew is called into question, Shannon learns her life isn’t what she thought it was. With the promise of a future with Dylan stolen from her before her world implodes, Shannon must rely on the family that has protected her for the last thirteen years to come for her. She won’t win this fight on her own…Shannon is going to lose. Please note that this novel is the continuation of Blackness Takes Over and cannot be read as a standalone.
Wow
the author gave me the action I was missing. I strongly advise you read
the first two books in order so you can feel the panic and understand what the
characters have been through to get to this point. Book two starts out full of
drama as we find out where Kid is and what is happening to her. We also
have more people becoming involved in her story and the drama. With this
round the author allows us to see each of the three “brothers” more in depth
and to what lengths they will go to in order for Kid to be safe.
Kid
finds her life in danger during the kidnapping by people who really don’t care
what they do to her. The scenes in this part of the book are graphic and
had me tied up in emotions as I watch her fight to survive. While trying to
remember what her Uncle taught her she is going to have to come up with an
escape because she isn’t sure if her guys will find her. Coming back from
this won’t be easy for her, this could be the event that finally breaks her
will to fight and survive.
We
get to meet Kieran, who I fell in love with, as he uses his connections and
knowledge get the answers behind the kidnapping of Kid. In this book you
also get the missing pieces about the death of Kid’s father and when she was
shot, along with more of her past life.
Along
with our gang we get to see more of Nick and what Taylor was really up to in
his relationship with Kid. Kel is a major player in this book with his
issues regarding the ex-girlfriend along with nursing some battle wounds from a
beating he received. What is going to happen will not only change his
world but Kid’s as well. We are going to see the level of loyalty, love
and dedication she is truly capable of.
I
could go on for hours with all the suspense and drama that is in this book, but
I don’t want to risk spoiling the thrill you are about to find. I can say
that you will find multiple stories and situations that will draw this large
man made family into danger, craziness and edge of your seat reading. One
thing that never fails is their devotion and love for each other. Where
some books of this type have characters come and go, each one that comes in to
this inner circle is a family for life, or until they have proven their
ultimate betrayal. Some will risk their own life and freedom to seek
revenge for the evil others have done to one of their members.
I
have already read book 3 and I LOVED it and that is what drew me to this
author. You will find more about Kieran and what he is willing to endure
for the sake of saving a lost soul. I so highly recommend this series and
will warn you it isn’t a fluffy read. If you are turned off by violence,
betrayal and foul language you might not be ready for this series, but you will
miss out on an edge of yours seat, heart stopping story that makes you willing
to go through that dark stuff to be included into this awesome and strange
family.
