To Love and Obey by Mardi Maxwell

Addison Mathews is the only daughter of a famous mother and a billionaire father. She learned at an early age to be wary of people until she met and claimed Cade Ramsey when she was too young to understand what love was all about. Since then Cade has been her protector and he is one of the few people she trusts as well as the only man she's ever loved. Cade is a former Green Beret who works for a global security company. He's also a Dom who believes that love can't be trusted. He and his four brothers co-own Club Mystique, an expensive and exclusive BDSM club. When Cade decides to give up the Dom lifestyle and settle down he chooses Addison as the perfect woman to be his wife and the mother of his children. Things begin to go wrong when Addison discovers Cade's secrets. Intrigued by the D/s lifestyle she decides to prove to him that she would be the perfect sub as well as the perfect wife. Addison and Cade are two strong willed people, each with their own ideas of what their future should be. Just as it looks like things are working out for them an enemy of Cade's decides to take his revenge by going after Addison. Cade finds himself fighting to save her and their future together.

This was a fairly short but very hot and interesting story about two people not only in love, but exploring and pushing the boundaries that love has to offer.
Addison has always loved Cade.  He’s been her protector and rock throughout her tumultuous life as the child of celebrities, but now he’s going to be more.  He’s going to be her lover and boyfriend.  This thrills Addison, as all she has ever wanted is to be with Cade, but he seems to be holding back and she is more than frustrated.  His secret is his BDSM lifestyle, and once she discovers that, it opens a whole new world for them both.
I thought that the premise of the story was great, and the dynamic between the characters was something that I found to be engaging and kept me reading.  My biggest problem with this story is Cade.  I tried very hard to like him but found myself really never fully getting there.  He has his admirable qualities for sure, but I found a lot of his actions to firmly put him in the douchebag category.  I did think, however, that Addison was a great balance to Cade.  It seemed that even though she had a sheltered upbringing, she was resilient and strong willed.  She seemed to know her mind and stick to her guns, and I thought she was a well written and interesting character.
I did think that this book was very well written.  I sense there’s a lot more to the story here and I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the books to find out more.  This is definitely a series I will be keeping up with.  4 stars.

I was born in Utah but I’ve traveled throughout America and lived in sunny California, hot and dry west Texas, and the mountains of Colorado. I wrote my first erotic romance in the summer of 2013. It was accepted and published that same year. Since then I’ve written three more books in the Doms of Club Mystique series. At this time I’m busy writing the fifth and final book in the series. My heroes are tough cowboys with military backgrounds and my heroines are strong, sassy and submissive. I like my readers to laugh, and cry, so I put a lot of emotion in my books as well as suspense and happy endings.

Other than writing, I love to read, travel, garden, swim with my family, and go to the local drive-in movie with a carload of friends and a huge container of home-made cheese popcorn.

  1. Thank you for reading and reviewing To Love and Obey. I agree that Cade is a mess but with good cause. The Doms of Club Mystique is an on-going family saga rather than a series with each brother having their own, and separate, story (although I never intended it should be like that - the characters just took over and insisted on having their stories told). :-)
