The Sweetheart Buck, By: Mark Allen

John and Debra had the perfect marriage...until John's obsession with bow-hunting drove a wedge between them. Then a horrible accident forces them back together to confront the demons of loss and bitterness lurking in their hardened hearts. Bearing scars both physical and emotional, they each must discover that the road to healing is not always a straight path and salvation can sometimes be found where you least expect.

The style of writing that Mark has, he was able to give details about things in the book, for example the type of bow that John’s character used, but the details did not overwhelm you.  Coming from a family that has hunters in it, I was able to connect with John’s character, being able to understand the joys of hunting and the excitement for the different new “toys” that come out.

One thing that I really enjoyed about this book is how it’s a romance, but it’s not a typical romance.  The relationship that goes on between John and Debra, it shows how one person’s obsession can affect others.  It was almost as if you could feel the inner turmoil that Debra was feeling during the course of the story.  My only wish is that it was a little longer.
This story is one that shows you; sometimes just talking to someone could change their lives completely.
This is the first book of Mark’s that I have read, and I will be sure to check out more from him!
