I read this book a few months ago, and as I was perusing
through it in order to write my review I was reminded of what a ride this book
is. Seriously, it is all over the place
emotionally. You will laugh, you might
cry, you will definitely get angry at several of the characters. Ok, all of the characters.
Emmy thinks her boss is a total jerk, which is why she – of
course – begins an affair with him. In
her defense, when presented with Kyle, he is quite the panty dropper. The problem is that he is in a serious
relationship with another woman. Yeah…not
a smart move on your part, Emmy. She
does try to stop, but seems compelled towards him. Even when she meets another, nearly perfect
man, she can’t get stop with Kyle. So
ensues the drama, headaches, emotional blackmail, lying, cheating and all
around shenanigans that make up this book.
I liked this book, I did.
Even with the cheating and the characters who aren’t very likeable (save
1), I devoured this book in a day. I had
to find out what happened, and I had to see how it all flushed out. And while the ending was relatively happy,
I’m not so sure it was realistic. But I
guess there probably aren’t a lot of men like Luke in the world, with a heart
so big, he forgives even the most seemingly unforgivable sin a person in a
relationship can commit.
There are some very serious issues addressed in this
book. Addiction and abuse being among
them. I thought the author really
handled this with a deftness that pulls the reader in. Even if the characters weren’t very likable,
they were real, and therefore their plights become yours. That is the attraction and achievement of
this book. 4 stars from me.

Despite his dick-like disposition and violent past, Lily fights to prove to Kyle that he is worthy – of being loved, and worthy of redemption, but Kyle is afraid of repeating history and he can’t let go of his past…And maybe a very important someone from his past isn’t ready to let go yet either…

With the rollercoaster ride that was “Accidentally on
Purpose”, I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book. I mean, I was sure that Kyle is just a
horrible person. He’s a drug addict,
abuser, cheater…basically just an all-around bad guy. I found nothing particularly redeeming about
him in the previous book, and I honestly didn’t think it would be possible to
dedicate an entire book to his story and make the reader like him. I have to say, I grew attached to Kyle in
this book, and his story is definitely one worth telling and reading.
This is the continuation of Kyle’s Story from AOP. He’s still lamenting the loss of Emmy and the
fallout from his actions in his life. He
meets Lily, who has a shady past of her own.
She’s tattooed, pierced, spunky and basically the polar opposite of
everything Kyle has ever had. They start
out hating each other, challenging each other and fighting the building
chemistry between them.
I really love the build up between these two in this book,
as well as the transformation of the characters. You learn more about Kyle, which helps me to
digest and forgive him for some of the things that happened in AOP. I mean, Kyle is still Kyle, but I have more
sympathy for him now and see that he’s not, in fact, the worst man in the
history of men (which was his previous title, according to me). To see him go from so NOT book boyfriend
material to true boy boyfriend material is freakin’ magic to this reader. I’m not sure if you picked up on my intense
dislike of Kyle from the previous book, but it was there. Now…I get it.
I get him, and my opinion was transformed.
I did really happen to like Lily. She has her own cross to bear, but she
benefits from having Kyle in her life, which I think is wonderful. And she takes on the task of showing Kyle his
worth. I thought as I was reading this
that is what love stories are all about.
Showing someone that they are worthy of not only giving love, but
receiving it. Especially someone as
damaged as Kyle.
I think it takes a lot of guts to write for a character that
you know literally your entire fan base hates.
Kudos to you, L.D., because you took a chance and it worked. I can’t say that I *love* Kyle Sterling now,
but I definitely *like* him, which is a huge leap. For that, and for telling his and Lily’s
story so beautifully, I give 4.5 stars.
