I usually don’t like short stories, especially if they are
broken into a serial. With this book, I
have mixed emotions about it because I did enjoy the story, but it felt way too
short for me. The book seemed to pass by
rather quickly and I didn’t like that aspect of it.
In my opinion, there wasn’t a whole lot of character
development, and I think that is because of how short the story itself is. The sex that happens in the story was
amazing; there is no doubting that at all.
But until the end of the book, there wasn’t that much going on besides
the sex. Karina’s character seemed
pretty weak to me as well. She seemed
like she didn’t even know what she wanted with the way she was going between
Ian and Xavier.
Overall though, I think the story was good, I just wish it
would have been 1 full length novel instead of broken into parts.

Author: Melissa Crowe
Publication Date: 25th December 2012
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Synopsis:
Karina has now discovered her
abilities, but this only puts her in further danger. With a 600 year old
lycanthrope thirsting for her blood, Ian must summon the help of his brother
Ronan, the keeper of the Spear of Victory, a treasure sacred to the Tuatha De
Danann. Can the two Guardians protect Karina, or will her secret ultimately
bring destruction upon them all?
After reading The Beast Within, I had an idea of what to
expect with this book. I did enjoy this
part of the story more than book 1 and I think it’s because there is more
happening in this story. We also get to
learn more about Karina’s past and her family history. So it was very interesting to learn about
that part of the story.
There is a really good balance between all the aspects of
this book. The drama and suspense went
together quite well. It was easy to
follow along with what was happening because I wanted to find out what was
causing the dreams. The tension that was
happening between Karina and Ian was just off the charts as well. I was left wondering if they were going to be
able to make it through everything.
I am still going back and forth between how I feel about
Karina’s character. There were some
parts of the story that I just wanted to smack her because of how she was
acting. But then on the other hand, there
were some parts where I was completely shocked with what she did, shocked in a
good way.
With everything that happened in this part of the serial, I
now can’t wait to read the last book and find out what happens.

I have completely mixed feelings about this book. From the start of the series, it was really interesting
and it was fun to follow along because the story line is one that I haven’t
read about before.
But it felt like with each book that passed that there was
just something missing from them.
With this last book, I really disappointed with the ending
of it because I was lead to believe that there was just going to be three
books, and there is a major cliffhanger at the end of it.
I might read more into the future books just because with
the way this book ended, it didn’t make any sense to me.
The characters in the book were expanded upon more. With Karina’s character we were able to find
out more about her and her family history; which was really fun to find out about. Ian’s character as well we were able to get
more background on him and what makes him so special.
But when it came to the actual story, I was left wanting
because it felt like there was a lot that could have been added that wasn’t.
Don’t get me wrong, there was a ton of drama and suspense in
this book. And while it was really great
to read about, besides that I felt the ending was very lacking.
