~ Synopsis ~
Waitress Tess Branson has earned a bad reputation, and the nickname "Fast Tessie," as result of her poor judgment where men are concerned. Tess learned from a young age that men – of all ages – were interested in one thing from her and one thing only. But all Tess ever really wanted was to connect with someone special – to mean something to someone. Lucas Flynn, the short order cook at the restaurant where Tess works, has just been released on parole. He’s trying to get his life back on track, but can’t help noticing the pretty waitress who treats him kindly, despite his past. At Lucas’s urging, Tess makes a wish on a star, but they’ll have to rely on the magic of Christmas to help it come true.
The Christmas Wish is a novella and can be read as a standalone.
Well, this was a short but very touching story. It involves Tess, a waitress with a bad
reputation in town as an easy girl.
She’s a larger woman, with curves, and has had bad luck with men. All they ever want from her is something physical. Lucas is an ex-con who works as a short order
cook in the same restaurant as Tess.
He’s watched her closely in the four months he’s worked there, and
finally decides to ask her out. What
ensues is a sweet story about two damaged people who find absolution with each
other.
This is the first book I have read by this author, but I
think now I’m going to have to read her other works. I was really taken by this story, which is a
feat considering it’s only 40-some pages long.
But I was invested from the get-go.
Tess just thinks so little of herself, and thinks that no man really
wants her for anything else than what she can offer them physically. Lucas
changes all of that for her. He may be
an ex-con who was just released from prison, but you come to find that his
reasons for being in prison were honorable, and that he is simply an imperfect
human with his heart in the right place.
What he gives to Tess is so beautiful.
Plus, you can’t really go wrong this time of year with a sweet Christmas
themed story. Christmas is kind of a
magical time for people, and this story manages to capture a little bit of that
magic.
I really enjoyed this story.
It packs a punch for a short story.
And, it totally put me in a Christmas mood. The pacing, the plot and
character development were that of a much more involved and longer story. I think it takes a lot of skill to pack that
into 40 pages. I know I’ve given a lot
of these lately, but I wouldn’t feel right giving it anything else but 4.5
stars. The only wrong with it is that I
was sad when it was over!
KATY REGNERY, winner of several regional RWA contests, has always loved telling a good story and credits her mother with making funny, heartwarming tales come alive throughout her childhood. A lifelong devotee of all romance writing from Edwardian to present-day, it was just a matter of time before Katy tried her hand at writing a love story of her own.
As it turned out, one love story turned into a series of five Heart of Montana romances, following the love lives of the Yellowstone-based Lindstrom siblings. In addition to small-town contemporary romance, Katy is presently writing a paranormal romance that takes place in northern New England and the forests north of Quebec.
Speaking of forests, Katy lives in the relative-wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut where her writing room looks out at the woods and her husband, two young children and two dogs create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories of all are the messy and unexpected ones.
