Regina Morris is the author of the humorous paranormal romances that make up
The Colony series. She loves paranormal romances featuring vampires, but her
personal taste is light-hearted and humorous – not horrific and gory. She lives
in Austin, Texas with her husband and two children. She enjoys meeting with her
monthly critique writing groups and meeting other writers in the Austin area
through the WLT events.

school in Germany and she attended the University of Texas at Austin where she

The Devil’s Third begins where Dark Spirits left off.
Eighteen-year-old Paige Reed is on a quest to find King Solomon’s incantations.
Whomever possesses the power of his ring and the incantations, can control the
dark spirits.
This Beyond the Eyes trilogy creates a new mythology that’s
captivating and believable. Book one (Beyond the Eyes) hooks you in. The second
book (Dark Spirits) is full of action and suspense and shows Paige adjusting to
her new life and relationship with Nathan. You cannot turn the pages fast
enough. The Devil’s Third takes the reader on an enchanting journey with Paige
and her friends where magic and tough decisions are made. You feel as if you’re
actually there.
At the beginning of this book, Paige discovers what she
truly is, and it’s shocking. Then her best friend Carrie reveals a
heartbreaking problem before getting into an accident which throws her into a
comatose state. Paige who is unsure about her abilities, must use magic to save
Carrie from a horrible fate. Paige is also confronted by Bael—the oldest dark
spirit of them all - the one who has been seeking Solomon’s power for thousands
of years. He forces her into a deal with him and since Tree (A.K.A. Jack) is
there at the time, he’s backed into a corner with Paige.
At the beginning of this trilogy, Paige’s character seems
like a crying, selfish, teenager. But she’s a teenage girl who went through a
lot in her short life. I remembered being her age and how fragile my emotions
were, and I didn’t have near the problems she had. But throughout this trilogy,
her character grows into a strong kickass fighter against evil. (Sort of
reminds me of Luke Skywalker's growth from a naive farm boy who complains about
wanting more in life, to the fierce Jedi he becomes bringing balance to the
galaxy.) She’s fiercely loyal to her friends and it shows in The Devil’s Third.
But then there’s her ex-boyfriend Brayden. She still loves him; however, she
has said several times that she’s not in love with him. She’s in love with
Nathan.
In Beyond the Eyes, Brayden violates Paige in such a way
that a lot of people would find unforgivable. And although Brayden wholeheartedly
believes he and Paige belong together and is relentless about it, Paige will
not shut him completely out of her life. Some readers might be frustrated about
this, but I can see why Paige still has a soft spot for him. They knew each
other since they were in preschool, Brayden helped her through hard times, and
they grew up together, are best friends and dated. Not to mention, Paige still
sees good in Brayden. In Dark Spirits and The Devil’s Third, Brayden’s behavior
becomes questionable on which side he’s on. Good or bad? But towards the end of
The Devil’s Third, Paige tells Brayden something that I wanted to pat her on
the back for.
I have to say, The Devil’s Third is full of surprises and
ties everything together beautifully. The reader gets to find out what the
Devil’s third is and so much more. Rebekkah Ford takes the reader with Paige
and the gang across the Atlantic into the bowels of ancient Africa. She weaves
magic and superstition that is both gripping and startling in a sense to where
you didn’t see that one coming and want to know more kind of thing.
There are wonderful twists and turns throughout this trilogy
that will leave you breathless and wanting more. The mythology Rebekkah created
is believable and makes me wonder if there are soulless people walking among
societies, and if there are dark entities dwelling in them. Also using the
history of Solomon’s ring, power and other things as well (I don’t want to
spoil it for you), is brilliant. It makes the whole concept in the Beyond the
Eyes trilogy hauntingly real. Also, some of the characters are endearing and
fun, while others make you instantly not like them. They’re all three
dimensional, and Rebekkah did an excellent job creating them.
The Devil’s Third is a wonderful and tantalizing third book
in the Beyond the Eyes trilogy. I didn’t want to put it down and hope Rebekkah
will continue on with this fantastical trilogy. I definitely would recommend it
to people who are into paranormal/fantasy books.
I've thought about this question, a lot. I'm not sure why
the idea of being a paranormal/supernatural being is so appealing to me. I'm a
busy mother, I work outside the home, and I write novels in my spare time. I
guess I appreciate any escape from reality.
So let's say a Genie offers to grant me one wish and I could
be any paranormal/supernatural being. I've seen enough movies and read enough
books to know not to trust a Genie. You have to make the wish as specific as
possible.
Would I want to be a shape shifter? Probably not. The idea
of every bone being crushed in my body is not appealing. Plus, if not alpha it
just wouldn't be worth it.
Would I want to be a vampire? I'm not really much into sun
bathing, so maybe. If I could turn all my loved ones into a vampire I'd take
this option. If not, I definitely would not want to outlive everyone I love - I
especially would not want to outlive my children.
Would I want to be a ghost? Nope. I would want to be seen.
Also, I'm not too fond of drafty places and the idea of haunting a place isn't
really exciting.
Would I want to be a demon? God, no.
Would I want to be a fairy, nymph or other creature of
nature? No. Not with how many forests are cut down each year. Imagine a forest
fire and you are trying to flee with 3-inch wings? Next.
So what about just having a super power? My first thought
would be to have the ability to control objects near me. I lost my keys? Oh, no
I haven't. With just a snap of my fingers they float right over to me. I need
to reach something from a high shelf? No problem. The item will float down to
me. Being a busy mother, this one sounds appealing. However, I can't image how
fat my bottom would be if I sat around all day just controlling my environment
with my mind. My butt certainly would be bigger.
I think I'd have to settle for an ability I saw in the movie
'Sky High'. I like the idea of cloning myself six times. However, before the
Genie casts the spell, I'd have to put some requirements on it.
1) The clones will know (and be happy knowing) they're
clones and I'm the master. They will obey me to the letter.
2) If a clone dies, I don't. Even if one dies or loses a
limb, I still get six intact clones every time I want them.
3) If my six clones workout for 10 minutes apiece, I benefit
from the 1 hour workout. However, if they all eat cheesecake all day, I don't
gain an ounce.
4) They also can't have my exact DNA or fingerprints. Hey, I
live a clean/arrest-free life. I don't need a disgruntled clone changing that.
5) The clones are as smart, intelligent, strong, and as
capable as I am. So, none of this 1/6 the strength, 1/6 the height. A real
clone. Not a mini me with 1/6 the IQ.
As a mother, and a full-time employee, I can see the benefit
of being a creature who can clone themselves.

She is everything Sterling could hope for in a mate and he wonders if she'd ever consider loving a half-breed.
Kate is beautiful, intelligent, charming and sophisticated. Kate has led a sheltered life and is considered handicapped by vampire standards. Could she possibly trust Sterling enough to share her dark personal secret with him?
