Tell Me When Tour Stop!

Amber Scott should be enjoying life as a college freshman. She should be pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She should be working hard to make sense of her precalculus math class.

She shouldn’t be waking up her college roommate with screaming nightmares. She shouldn’t be flashing back, reliving the three weeks of hell she barely survived last year. And she definitely shouldn’t be spending time with sexy player Marcus Reid.

But engineering student Marcus is the only one keeping Amber from failing her math course, so she grudgingly lets him into her life. She never expects the king of hookups will share his painful past. Or that she’ll tell him her secrets in return, opening up and trusting him in a way she thought she’d never be able to again.

When their fragile future together is threatened by a stalker Amber thought was locked away for good, Marcus is determined to protect her. And Amber is determined to protect Marcus…even if that means pushing him away.

I’m really glad that New Adult is a growing genre, because there are a lot of really great books coming out of it.  “Tell Me When” is definitely one of the better NA books I’ve read lately.
This is Amber’s story…and girlfriend has got issues.  She’s starting her first year of college, but suffers from PTSD – nightmares, flashbacks, etc.  During the previous year, she also had a stalker which has translated itself into her not wanting any male attention.  Unfortunately, that doesn’t work for her and she garners male attention anyway.  This is how she meets Marcus.  He’s the resident manwhore, with a string of one night stands behind him.  He goes after Amber, but she brushes him off which he finds exceedingly puzzling because, well…he’s Marcus.  Women love Marcus.  All women.  Except Amber. She does hire him to tutor her in math, which she is close to failing due to her issues. Through that, they form a fragile bond, both realizing that they harbor their own issues and secrets.  When someone starts sending Amber menacing messages, it throws them into a position where past secrets and old wounds will not only threaten their budding relationship, but their lives as well.
This book has alternating POV between Amber and Marcus, which I personally like a lot.  I like to see glimpses into each of their heads.  And it’s also handy because as they reveal their secrets and pasts to each other it is revealed to the reader as well, and it makes you want to gobble up the story to unveil all of their secrets.  I thought that the main characters were really intriguing, but what I especially liked about Amber was that her issues were an active part of the story, not just something she experienced in the past.  They were shown to us as readers, not just told, and I really liked that.
I also really liked that the storyline went deeper than campus manho meets and then pursues girl.  There’s so much more going on with the story.  That, coupled with the fact that the editing and writing are spot on really made this a quick and satisfying read.
My only complaint about the book is that it just felt a bit too coincidental how Marcus and Amber were thrown together.  They kept crossing paths that eventually led to the tutoring.  It just seemed a bit unrealistic to me.  And the whole kitten thing…got on my nerves a bit.  But, that could just be me.
Overall, I enjoyed this book.  It was suspenseful and romantic.  If you’re into NA, then this is a book for you!  4 stars!
