Tall, dark, and lethal...
Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey's tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome--pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He's left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander's daughter. Loyalty won't let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.
With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn't expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.
Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge...

I had went to the release party for this book and unfortunately did not purchase it that day. It was added to my wish list as one I would get to some time. I wasn't really sure what to expect honestly. I mean I like my military men as much as the next hot blooded female but as I am not familiar with the military way of life. I guess I was a bit fearful of not understanding the men or the jargon used. It wasn't a problem at all. Laura's writing is absolutely amazing and while she gives lots of information, it is so easy to follow and understand. I also want to point out one thing that impressed me above all others. She gets details down to the letter. I find in a lot of books when I question something, it isn't cleared up normally. I would think something in this book and seriously, the next sentence was taking care of the small details. Kudos to Laura Kaye for her amazing attention to detail!
In this book we meet Becca whose brother, Charlie, has been kidnapped. She got to Nicholas for help per her brother's instructions. There is a past between Becca's father and Nicholas and he is leary to help her.
"Yesterday, he refused to even talk to
her. Now he wanted to call the shots? What happened in twenty-four hours to
bring about this one-eighty? Could she really count on him?"
We slowly watch as the mystery unravels and Becca and Nicholas' feelings evolve. I loved this book. It had just the right amount of mystery, suspense, romance, and warm fuzzy feelings. I read this one almost straight through as I had to know what happened. It kept my attention the whole way. I normally find a lot of books have moments of lagging and I struggle to get through those parts to get to the good stuff. Not in this book. The mystery was solid and actually believable to me. While this one also doesn't end on a cliffhanger, you will want to read the next book, Hard As You Can to learn more about Charlie, Becca, Nicholas, Eileen, and the rest of the team. I certainly hope that Laura will do a book for each of these amazing characters that we are introduced to in this book.
"Sometimes you plodded through life
with nothing changing from one month to the next no matter how much you yearned
for a resolution to erupt beneath your feet. And sometimes your whole world
imploded and rebuilt itself in a matter of seconds. In the past, those
instantaneous changes had always ignited with pain and loss. Not this
time."
