Summoned by Rainy Kaye

Twenty-three year old Dimitri has to do what he is told—literally. Controlled by a paranormal bond, he is forced to use his wits to fulfill unlimited deadly wishes made by multimillionaire Karl Walker.

Dimitri has no idea how his family line became trapped in the genie bond. He just knows resisting has never ended well. When he meets Syd—assertive, sexy, intelligent Syd—he becomes determined to make her his own. Except Karl has ensured Dimitri can’t tell anyone about the bond, and Syd isn’t the type to tolerate secrets.

Then Karl starts sending him away on back-to-back wishes. Unable to balance love and lies, Dimitri sets out to uncover Karl’s ultimate plan and put it to an end. But doing so forces him to confront the one wish he never saw coming—the wish that will destroy him.

A dark twist on the genie folklore, SUMMONED follows a reluctant criminal as he unravels the mystery of the paranormal bond controlling him.

This was a REALLY interesting book.  I mean, I’ve read my fill of weres, vampires and the like, but a genie bond?  How has someone not written about this lately?  Because it’s totally awesome.
Dimitri is trapped in a genie bond with the multimillionaire Karl Walker.  He has no choice but to obey Karl’s every whim.  His family line has become trapped in this bond and he doesn’t know how to get out of it. Then Dmitri meets Syd.  She’s sexy, assertive and smart and she doesn’t tolerate secrets.  Dimitri has a pretty big secret, which is made even harder to keep by the fact that Karl has sent him on back to back wishes that he has no choice but to fulfill.  As Dimitri tries to determine what Karl’s endgame is and put a stop to it, he’s confronted with the one wish that could ultimately destroy him.
I have honestly never read a book like this.  The overall plot and world building of this book is fantastic!!!  And like I said, the genie storyline is quite original, and for that I have to give this book serious props.  My big complaint in this book is the central relationship between Syd and Dimitri.  Relationship building is really important (if not THE most important) thing to me in my books.  I like to become invested in the characters, and enjoy a bit of a slow burn between them.  Syd and Dimitri hook up one night, and while I’m ok with in books, it seems like even though their relationship goes deeper, most of their interactions take place in the bedroom.  Sometimes this can work for me, as I like my fair share of sexy story time, but something about this just didn’t do it for me at all.  As the book picks up about halfway through, I did become more invested, but the first half of this book left me searching for a bit more.
Overall, I did really enjoy this book.  It’s part thriller, part mystery, part romance and the concept of the book is so original, I had to see how it all turned out.  By the end, I was so caught up in Dimitri and his story that I could not put it down.  What starts off as a light-hearted book becomes a much darker and deeper book about a genie trying desperately to chance his fate.  It was awesome.  And don’t worry, even though there will be a book two, this book has a very satisfying ending.  This is a very promising start to a new series and I can’t wait for book 2.  4 stars.
