Revenge is sweet...
Self-made billionaire Alex Damon wants his pound of flesh from the people who ripped his family apart. When he discovers his enemies' daughter is working at his company -- and most likely spying for them -- he decides to start his revenge by seducing her.
Natalie Hall is stunned at the personal interest from the CEO of her company. Vulnerable, with an already bruised heart, she wants to avoid any involvement -- but she can't deny the desire he arouses in her.
...but love is sweeter...
What should've been a straightforward eye-for-an-eye starts to unravel as Natalie's unflinching loyalty and kindness begin to thaw Alex's cold intent. But caring for her is unthinkable...since he plans to use everything in his power to ruin her family and everyone else she holds dear.
I was pleasantly surprised with this
book. I expected a heated romance but found a story that could be a
Lifetime movie with the twists and manipulations that took place. The
idea of revenge against a family for the sins that had torn people apart, all aimed
at an innocent person who had been victimized as much as anyone. This was
the basis of this story, but the author created a love affair that will have
you melting and cheering for the two main characters.
Natalie was Asian yet she grew up in
white family. Believing she had been found and taken in, she felt a sort
of obligation to this political family, although not everyone was as welcoming
to her. Finding one morning that she had been promoted at her job by the
owner Alex Damon, she also discovered that he sparked a personal interest in
her body and mind. Knowing that work relationships always lead to
disaster she put up a great fight, but his charm was more than she could
refuse.
Alex Damon was on a mission to
destroy Natalie’s family. Knowing that a female in her family was the
cause for the downfall of his father, he believes he can manipulate Natalie
into helping him, or at least find out if she is the rat in his company that is
giving business secrets to the Hall family. There was no room in his life
to fall in love with her, he must stay focused on his mission, revenge.
The structure of this story was
flawless, the author developed a fast moving story that ran consistently and
was easy to follow. I found myself surprised at the truths that Natalie
and Alex discovered on this path of destruction. In the end once reality
had been exposed we were left with two broken people looking to see if they
could rebuild their lives together.
The author developed her characters
so well it was easy to feel the emotions and turmoil they were
experiencing. I lost myself while reading this book, as I do when
watching a fast paced movie full of plot twists and expectations that I didn’t
realize I had. I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for
an escape from reality for a few hours so you can dive into a world of lies,
manipulation and love…
A temporary reunion...
Newly jobless and adrift, former investment banker Kerri Wilson travels to Virginia to see her best friend and regroup, only to run into billionaire playboy Ethan Lloyd. It's been years since she's snuck out of his bed after the most amazing sex of her life, and he's so not her type -- she likes them tall, dark and manageable. But he's too hot to resist, and she succumbs to another sizzling, no-strings-attached (or so she thinks) night.
Unwilling to let her go this time, Ethan makes a simple proposition: a job, a place to stay, and an exclusive affair that will end when either of them finds someone else. But with her dark, painful past catching up to her, Kerri may have to bolt again -- even though her heart is telling her to stay. And Ethan's not giving her up without fighting to make their "temporary" arrangement something far more permanent...
Well the author did it again by
giving us a book that reads as a soap opera or the latest Lifetime movie.
We were introduced to these two characters in her first book Vengeful in Love,
but I don’t feel you need to read the first book to understand this story.
In this story we get to know more about Ethan and Kerri.
Let’s start with the sexy Ethan,
because he is something special. While being a hot piece of male, he is a
successful business man, coming from an affluent family. He has a high
social status yet he still holds on to his caring and protective nature towards
those he loves. Although he has plenty of money and businesses, the one
thing he is missing is why he was still interested in the lady who left in the
middle of the night after hot passionate sex.
Kerri was that woman, she has too
many family issues to ever feel safe in committing to a man, and so she left
her home in Texas and placed herself in Hong Kong to become successful as an
investment banker. It is time to come back to the states and who else but
Ethan was there to pick her up from the airport. He is in real need for
her to look into his family run business that his brother had just disappeared
from with an unknown amount of money and she would be perfect for that
temporary job. If he could keep her with him long enough to find out why she
ran, then he could see if they have a future. Who would have expected
that it would all come out on her birthday, the day he tried to make so special
for her.
I enjoyed this book because once
again the author gave us characters that we could relate to and the whole plot
was not about a growing love. We were taken into family drama that not only affected
the characters but created who they were today. I was disappointed that
this book followed the similar path as the first book with two female
characters having issues with their family and being seen as money hungry due
to their last names, while the men feel they are the saviors to these women and
have family drama of their own, I still believe this was a good book. The
secrets that Kerri was carrying were unique but once they were out the story
became pretty predictable. Ethan’s secrets weren’t that dramatic but the
author did weave an interesting story after his truth had been told. I
would recommend this book and I look forward to reading the third book in this
set.
