Loving Sarah by Julie Shelton

Eight years ago Jesse Colter fled his small town, leaving behind eighteen-year-old Sarah Marshall. Now a retired Navy SEAL, he’s back and he wants only one thing—Sarah Marshall—bound, naked, and kneeling before him.

Sarah has never forgotten Jesse, the object of all her sexual fantasies since she was fifteen, as well as the star of nightly dreams that have become increasingly erotic over the years. So when he suddenly reappears in her life, she warily agrees to let him introduce her to his world—the world of BDSM. When he also introduces her to his best friend, Adam Sinclair, Sarah faces the challenge of submitting to two powerful, Dominant men.

But Sarah has an even bigger challenge. A stalker. Someone from her past, determined to destroy any chance she has at happiness. Can Adam and Jesse love and protect her? Or will her world explode in betrayal and violence that will destroy them all?

I was so excited when I started this book, because one of my book love affairs is with ménage stories that are more about the story than they are about the sex. I really do love the stories that have a ton of action and suspsense happening in them, and this book did not let me down at all when it came to that!
I did like how Ms. Shelton did go back in time and show us all that had happened between Jesse and Sarah. She didn’t just leave us in the middle of the story with no clue what had happened in their past, and how they ended up being apart. I also liked how Adam was brought into the picture almost gradually, yet at the same time when he was in the scene, you certainly knew that he was. When it comes to the relationship between the three of them, I felt like it was a really well written and nothing completely over the top.
The action that does take place in the story (and no I’m not talking about the sex action here!) was enough that it did keep me on the edge of my seat for a good portion of the book. I just wanted to find out what was going to happen next. I do believe that Ms. Shelton did an amazing job building it up and keeping it going throughout the story.
The sex scenes, while they were really well done, I also felt a little let down because there wasn’t anything about them that made it completely stand out for me personally. Don’t get me wrong, I did still enjoy them, I just felt like I was waiting for something else to happen.
Now onto why this isn’t a 5 star read for me. It was really close, but throughout the book, it felt like every time there was going to be sex happening in the story Sarah’s character was able to pull me OUT of the scene so quickly by saying “Holy Moley”. While I do get that people have their own sayings, to me personally I felt like “Holy Moley” was almost childlike in a sense. I just wish that there would have been another term/saying used that wasn’t as strange as that one.
Overall though, I did still enjoy the book and I can’t wait to start the next one!
