Tempting Sydney by Angela Corbett

Due to mature content, this New Adult novel is recommended for readers over 18.

“Someone needs to make you come completely undone, Sydney Parker.” His tongue moved slowly over his lips. “That someone is going to be me.”

Goal-oriented Sydney Parker has never had a problem focusing. She’s about to start law school, the first step on her way to the Supreme Court. With no time for relationships, she lives vicariously through her best friend Brynn, who has recently decided to use sex as a research tool. Sydney, however, hasn’t been laid in years. Men are a distraction, one Sydney has diligently avoided…until Jackson West crashes into her life, and under her hood.

The last thing Sydney needs is a hot mechanic working on her ‘69 Camaro. Especially a hot mechanic with eyes like the ocean and lick-me abs, who claims to be better in bed than a werewolf.

Jax thinks that’s exactly what Sydney needs.

But Sydney has goals, and a relationship with the enigmatic Jax would challenge her.

Distract her.

Tempt her.

Sydney is about to find out that temptation is very hard to resist.

I thought that the plot of this book seemed interesting.  What I expected was the oft-told tale of an innocent woman tempted out of her cocoon by a bad boy.  What I got was a lot more.
Sydney is a level-headed and studious woman.  She is on a path, in her own mind, to greatness through law school.  She has given up on men, or dating anyway.  Until she meets Jax.  He is the mechanic working on her car and she is seduced by his body and his eyes.  He tempts her to step outside of her rigidly constructed world. And Sydney is beyond tempted, but she feels like her goals and relationship are mutually exclusive…one cannot exist with the other.  Can Jax show her differently?
First of all, the best thing about this book is the characters.  I was SO glad to read about a female heroine who was not an innocent virgin with no clue about the world.  Sydney knows about the world, which has led her to make the choices that she does.  She was a refreshing character and a great female lead.  And Jax….oh lawdy.  Jax is a freakin’ dream.  I doubt that a man like that actually exists in the world, if I’m being honest.  And if he does, the woman who has him (because he’s undoubtedly taken) is one lucky ho.  Seriously…Jax is awesome.  He is everything that you could ever want in a book boyfriend. He’s introverted, but has a lot of depth.  Discovering him, and his secrets, right along with Sydney was quite a journey and more than I expected when I opened up this book.
I also really liked the connection between Sydney and Jax.  There was a great build up between them and the scenes between them were hot.  It really left the voyeuristic pervert in me satisfied.
Overall, this was a great book.  It had a lot more depth than I expected, and it ran me through the whole gamut of emotions.  I seriously could not put it down.  4.5 stars.
