 Sloane loves a good mystery. He grew up as the son of two psychiatrists, so he finds most people tediously easy to figure out. Nothing in Sloane’s classes is as intriguing as Hank Springfield, Micah’s brother and fellow frat house member. Hank looks like a tough guy—big muscles, tatts, and a beard—but his eyes are soft and sweet. He acts dumb, but he’s a philosophy major. He’s presumably straight, but then why does Sloane feel such crazy chemistry whenever Hank is around? And why does Hank hate Sloane so much?

When Sloane ends up stuck on campus over Christmas, Micah invites him to spend the holidays at their family farm in Amish country. It’s a chance to experience a true Americana Christmas--and further investigate the mystery that is Hank Springfield. I lucked into finding this book offered on a deal and got it because it looked cute. It was more than just cute. This was absolutely fun and wonderful and… okay, go ahead and insert your chosen fantastic word here. :)

Sloane is a freshman at college and finds himself not only in a frat, but living in the frat house. Fortunately, everyone likes him except one guy: Hank. Hank is a body builder who doesn’t make any bones about the fact he does not want Sloane around. Only one problem: Hank’s brother Miach keeps throwing them together. First to plan the frat holiday party and then when Sloane’s flighty parents change his Christmas plans at the last minute and finds himself without anywhere to go he actually invites Sloane to spend the holiday with their family.

Except for the fact that the author painted almost all the men with big bushy beards – seriously, do guys grow them like that in Pennsylvania? – I absolutely loved this book. Sloane could give as well as he got in the teasing and prank department, Hank held up a stern outer shell but a softie lurked inside, and Hank’s parents? All I can say is I hope my future in-laws are like Lilith and Karma. Well, maybe not on the ‘no–sugar’ kick they are on, but I completely agreed with Sloane when he told Hank, “Your mom is bad-ass cool. You know that, right?” I mean, how can you not adore a couple who finds a gay bar to go to on Christmas Eve to watch a drag show because they have a gay man visiting and are pretty sure at least one of their sons is gay? Or, wait, I won’t share one scene because quite honestly it’s so mind-bendingly funny I don’t want to spoil it for you – just take my word for it: Hank and Micah’s parents are “bad-ass cool”.

Add in a bulldog who has Sloane wrapped around his paw in seconds, cows who are definitely his match, Chick City, and Amish pies and well… what are you waiting for? Go grab Unwrapping Hank now. It’s the perfect Christmas story… for reading at any time of the year. 5 stars all the way.
