Breeder Series Spotlight!

To secure his legacy, Commander Dak, a ruling Alpha of planet Parseon, purchases Omra, a breeder slave. He intends to impregnate her, produce a son, and hand her off to his anointed beta partner. As Dak and Omra discover a sexual bliss banned by law, he begins to question Protocol-sanctioned male domination, causing him to jeopardize his command and endanger the life of the woman he has come to love.

Breeder explores the concepts of gender roles and social prohibitions against deviant behavior. It includes graphic M/F and some M/M sexual content and domestic discipline.

 

Wow this book was amazing on so many levels.  I loved how Ms. Bristol was able to create a completely new alien society that closely mirrors us in physical appearance but is drastically different in their social customs.  The Protocol that governs the social interactions of everyone on Parseon is so different from ours that it was fascinating. 

I loved that the author switched the POV between different key characters as it gave the reader the opportunity to experience the arguments that Dak was having with himself over his “inappropriate” feelings for Omra.  It was so very interesting to see how these characters described kissing as such an alien behavior. 

Overall a wonderful book that allows you to look at our culture from a completely different point of view.  I am very interested to see how this series progresses as it seems as though the planet is on the verge of a very large societal shift and that usually only occurs through war.

Terran, the second book in the Breeder sci-fi series, is a “capture” romance involving a domineering but hunky alien, a female with a bad dye job and an even worse attitude, explicit sex, anal sex, and spanking.

 

This book was even more interesting than the first one in this series.  I was greatly impressed with how Ms. Bristol wrote the character Tara.  She is an independent, fiery and entrepreneurial woman from Earth living on Parseon.  On Parseon women are seen merely as breeders, and as possessing limited mental acuity and strength, however, Tara manages to completely blow this theory out of the water with her behaviors.  While Tara is from Earth and therefore is given diplomatic immunity from participating in Protocol she is still just a female in the eyes of the Parseon males.

I was fascinated with the thought processes of Marlix, he is not only an Alpha but he is also a Commander and under even more scrutiny than the other males.  His internal battles were fascinatingly heart-breaking.  It was so interesting how while he was trying to force himself to conform with Protocol he could never quite embrace it completely. 

At the end of this book you could really see how the civil war was beginning to heat up with two of the Commander’s embracing unorthodox relationships with females.  I am very interested in reading the third book in this series so I can read not only Anika’s story but how Parseon deals with this drastic shift in thinking.

Between war and duty, they find love…

On a planet where women are chattel, Anika is to be delivered to become the mate of an Alpha Commander. Secretly in love with another, she is unable to accept the arrangement and flees. Bound by his duty, her lover Urazi intended to bring her back to fulfill her function. But war intervenes, and as their planet fights a desperate battle against a villainous despot, Anika and Urazi become united in their determination to save their people. But with their lives on the line, the love they share may become the biggest risk of all.

Anika cared for her “partner” Jergan and while she mourns his death, she also relishes the freedom she has had in not having to answer to a man other than her brother Marlix. Needless to say she is NOT happy when Marlix announces that she will become the breeder to Commander Ilian. Unlike Jergan, who was a beta, Commander Ilian is an alpha and she knows he will be far more controlling than Jergan was. Much to Marlix and Urazi’s dismay, Anika steals away in the night to avoid being sent to the Commander the next day. Marlix’s dismay is due to his disbelief that his sister would disobey him. Urazi is dismayed because he and Anika had been engaging in beta sex (anal sex to prevent betas from procreating) and he thought they had grown close enough that she would have come to him about the issue. Against his Alpha’s orders, Urazi sets off to find Anika and bring her back – better him not be able to see her because she is with Ilian than because she is dead. What follows is an action-packed adventure as Anika attempts to maintain her freedom while avoiding being caught by Marlix’s men and enemies.

I loved Anika’s strength and determination. Clearly she underestimated the dangers the a warring Parseon presented to her, but her ability to adapt to the situation demonstrates her intelligence and shows Urazi that he really shouldn’t underestimate women in general and her in particular. As they spend time together under extremely stressful conditions (you’ll have to read the book to find out because they’re too spoilerish to reveal), Urazi’s commitment to his Alpha and Parseon protocol weaken until he initiates non-beta sex with Anika. While many of their interactions are rushed due to the situation, it does not diminish their steaminess or thoroughness. As is usually the case in war, things get worse for the couple before they get better and things definitely get WAY worse – bad enough that I questioned whether or not Ms. Bristol was going to give Anika and Urazi the happy ending they deserved.

Although Warrior is the third book in the Breeder series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. That said, I suspect that I would have enjoyed a slightly richer reading experience had I read Breeder and Terran first as characters from both books either appeared or are mentioned in Warrior; however, I never felt at a loss of what was going on in their world. I do intend to go back and read books one and two to learn Marlix’s and Dak’s stories and I hope that Ms. Bristol is working on a fourth book in the series as there seem to be a lot of changes on the horizon for Parseon.

This is the third book in the Breeder series by Ms. Bristol.  I always loved Anika but this book just made me fall in love with her more.  It was so amazing to be able to follow her story through the other two books and then to finally end with her own love story. 

Anika is an amazing character and such a strong woman.  While Anika is Parseon by birth she has adopted many of the new and radical ideals that were brought over with the Terrans.  I was just so impressed with Ms. Bristol’s ability to show how the ideology was shifting throughout her stories and then to basically give Anika, a female, such a pivotal role was amazing. 

Urazi is another fascinating character.  I think his true strength was lost amid the original gender and role restraints of Protocol. By witnessing Anika’s strength and determination I think it gave him the passion and reason to want to be more than was his societally deemed role.

This is an amazing conclusion to this part of the series but I really hope Ms. Bristol decides to continue telling stories in this world.  I have loved watching this world evolve and I can’t wait to see it continue to do so.
