Ashlyn Forge Spotlight!

Ashlyn Forge has called four different continents home, America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Having spent most of her childhood staying out of trouble in upstate New York, she now lives in Japan. She is currently working on her "Toys and Soldiers" series, which is set in a Sci-Fi Fantasy underground world. The books of the series are released out of order with the debut (book 1) "In Liam's Wake" and "From Johann to Tannnenbaum" released in 2013. Book 2: "Beyond Riley's Slumber" as well as "The Stuff of Dreams" and "Erosions" are slated for publication in 2014.

You can’t go wrong with being greedy or The more paranormal abilities, the better!
You know that nasty kid that always asks for x more wishes from the genie / golden fish / fairy? Don’t you just hate that kid? So do I, unless that kid is me. Then what he does is totally cool, easy to explain, totally understandable. So, yeah, I am going to be that kid. If I were to be a paranormal character, I wouldn’t want to limit myself. Keep an open mind right?
First of all, a little super hero abilities are in order. Maybe the sharp senses of a werewolf? Also, shifting into any animal out there would be cool. Especially a penguin, because everyone loves penguins, even when they are evil, manipulative, kung fu fighting little bastards going all terrorist on boats. But I digress into cartoon land and that’s not the topic today. Next up, a little flying, so have your pick at any vampires that also fly, I would want that added to my list of paranormal activities.
Being a little psychic might also help, lottery numbers, being warned about people trying to kill you, hanging out with ghosts, all quite the riot. Also, you’d make sure you are it when you’re telling scary stories around the fire. No one can beat getting ghosts to suddenly haunt you.
That’s all good and dandy, but sometimes, just sometimes, flying is not enough to cut it, is it? That’s when time travel and mastering portals comes into play.  Nothing better than that to make paranormal cool. Unless you’re thinking manipulating tech from afar? Or moving objects around? Yeah, throw all that in my cart, I’m getting it all. Make me immortal while at it, just for good measure! With all those goodies, there are bound to be villains coming after me, so why bother with puny fears such as death of any kind?
Then there’s healing. I’ve heard of some Elementals doing that and I thought I’d grab it. Helping others gets you good PR, people exposing their toned bodies to be signed, and tons of freebies. Yes, I am quite the opposite of selfishness!
Annoyed yet? Didn’t think so! However, there is a perfectly good explanation why I can’t stop at just one paranormal character to emulate. It’s easy: have you ever read just one paranormal book? Have you ever stopped at the first book in the series? Again, didn’t think so. So let’s face it, we’re all that greedy kid that wants all the wishes and all the abilities. We momentarily appropriate them while reading about paranormal heroes and their unique abilities.
The one thing no one wants? That’s easy: people looking at you as if you were a freak and, worse, those chasing your paranormal behind to dissect you and put you under the microscope. Big no to that, please!

For eight years, Liam has been trapped underground in The Colony—a sanctuary so determined to stay hidden it forbids anyone from leaving once they've entered. His only hope of returning home rests on his best friend Riley who, on the eve of their escape, slipped into a coma.

Despite staggering debt, vengeful mutants and bounty hunters, Liam continues a seemingly never-ending quest for a cure to end Riley's unnatural five-year sleep. Every night, Liam stares at the listless man who not only holds his escape, but his heart. The suffering can end, however; Liam must only forsake all hope of ever returning home again, abandon Riley to his fate, and wholeheartedly serve as a soldier for The Colony—the very people he's trying to escape.

Live the life within his reach, or continue chasing the one just beyond his grasp? He need only submit.

Johann Andreas IV is a rich loser who has a raw deal in life. He is handsome, yet with a poor self-image, clever, but still uneducated, and despite being the heir apparent in his grandfather's will, he's about to be thrown out with nothing.

In the underground colony of his birth, two things matter the most to its denizens: a name, which will guarantee his wealth and status, and a designated branding tattoo, the only thing allowing Colony-Dwellers to live safely underground. Johann has one year to secure both.

He's up to the challenge but one thing stands in his way; his mother has plans of her own...and they don't include him.

  5. I can see the appeal of getting it all! I mean, why limit ourselves, why not keep an open mind. If you choose one ability, aren't you discriminating against the others? :D

  6. I'd love to be a mix of a vampire, werewolf and a demon (hybrid)

  7. The problem with being a paranormal creature is there's always some tragic downside to the powers. It's a lot of fun to read about, but I wouldn't want to live it! I'd rather choose a superpower, preferably teleportation although healing could certainly come in handy.
