MC Houle Spotlight!

MC HouleEven though becoming a writer hadn’t always been a dream of mine, creating characters and telling their stories has been the landscape of my early childhood. Characters who would live swirling in my mind, sometimes to be acted out with my two younger sisters or my friends and sometimes just to be there when I got bored. After I discovered Harry Potter fan fiction at 13-14, I wrote my own for the enjoyment of a mostly French readership. Reading my first slash fan fiction awoke an interest for everything LGBT*QIAect… that subside to this day. Some years later, I took a college almost-break to pursuit a ‘real life’ degree in biomedical and started a job in a hospital laboratory. And then in mid-2010, with the advent of nanowrimo and the discovery of HollyLisle’s “How to think Sideways” writing class, I went back to my forgotten passion of stories with the added goal of publication.

I was surprised when the answer came to me with such clarity and certitude.  With all the creatures out there ranging from vampire to mythology and everything the human mind have created, the choice should have been somewhat arduous.
Thing is.  I know which creature I`d like to be, and I’ve known this for a long time.
My strongest high school oral presentation was about werewolves.  I ate the research like you wouldn’t believe.  They were nothing like the modern werewolf.  They were the stuff of nightmare.  Blood thirsty creatures who’ll kill you before you can scream.  Not something I would want to be.  Today’s werewolves can control the beast and tend to runs in pack. There is something interesting about the unit they form, which is somewhat strange for me to envy as I am more of a lone person.  In that vein, my favourite fictional characters include Remus Lupin, I don’t miss one episode of Teen Wolf and one of the first series I read when I discovered there was actual book in the M/M genre out there was the With or Without Series by J.L. Langley.
But shape shifting doesn’t begin and end with werewolves.  One of my other guilty pleasures is a good old body-swap story. As a tween, I had that fantasy where I had some sort of guardian angel who could take my conscience and exchange it for someone else.  In a new body, I could experiment another life.  Interestingly, the fantasy had a time limit; after a while, the angel would need me to choose whether I wanted to keep that life or take back mine.  And of course, once the choice was made, I wouldn’t remember the angel.  And of course as I’m writing this, I realise how fucked up the fantasy was, and how it testify of stronger self-image issues.
And for something similar with werewolf, some creatures have the abilities to change from human form to human form.  A good example of this is in the movie Zerophilia which I watch some five years ago.   It follows an insecure young man you discovers he has the genetic ability to change into the girl version of himself every time he has an orgasm.  In my point of view, the main character loses a lot of time attempting to regain his old life, when really he should have enjoyed all the possibilities.  Of course I’m bias by my own life and desires, and he has his own backstory.
So yeah, if I had to be one supernatural creature, I’ll be some sort of shape shifter.  Preferably from human to human, but shape shifting is shape shifting, and it’s cool either way.  I would have this double life.  It’ll be hard, and I may need to find myself a Time lord to add hours to the days, but I’ll enjoy myself.

Hunky officer Nathah Pretti and his best pal Doctor Cobin Shrenk saved Byron Leighten’s life, and now Cobin is offering him shelter in his house. Byron feels indebted, and despite is visceral attraction for them both, he will stop at nothing to make them see the truth; that their love for each other isn’t onesided at all. As the summer’s progressing and Byron’s pretty sure he’s damn close to his goal, he can’t say with certainty if he’ll be able to walk away with his heart unbroken.
