"The phoenix hope, can wing her way through the desert skies,
and still defying fortune's spite; revive from ashes and rise.” -Miguel de Cervantes

Pieces For You is a captivating journey of survival, healing, and sacrifice—teeming with honesty, humor, unexpected twists, and love’s unsurpassed endurance.
*Though Pieces For You is a part of the For You Series, the book can be read as a stand alone.
Pieces For You will be a difficult
read for anyone who has suffered rape or supported someone who has been raped
or attacked, but it was worth the read. Although this book is a second in
a series, I was able to read it as a standalone and not be lost in the
story. I have not read the first book, but after getting to meet Hunter
and Ev I certainly plan on going back to get their story.
The book starts out with Sam’s
journal entries describing her time in a recovery center after being attacked,
raped and left for dead. After multiple surgeries and recovery time for
broken bones, she was transferred to a center for intense therapy and more
physical and emotional healing. When she comes home she is living with Ev
and Hunter who are very protective of her. Sam is a strong survivor but
that doesn’t mean she doesn’t struggle daily with regaining her feeling of
safety. Once she has had a couple of months to adjust to “normal” life
again Griff starts showing up at her home. He is a strong, sexy man.
Let’s just admit it, he is a perfect man. He understands what she needs
before she even knows it. He is patient during her triggers and
flashbacks and he is so protective of her.
The author allows us his POV in this
story and we can see he fell in love with her before the attack, always waiting
till the right time to express his feelings to her. He is dealing with
the guilt that if he would have acted sooner, he might have been able to
protect her from the pain she endured. He vows to never let anyone hurt
Sam again.
This book is not about just recovery
of the unthinkable. It is an ongoing drama with the rapist attorney
trying to convince Sam not to testify, yet there is still another threat out
there trying to kill Sam. With only the support of Hunter, Ev, and Griff
and now her new friend Megan she swears to make her life the best it can
be. Quitting life was never an option for her. Sam learns to allow her
body to feel again, she learns to work through triggering events and she is
getting strong when dealing with the threats she finds as she goes.
Trying to figure out who wants her dead starts to take over and in the end, she
will find she could lose more than her life.
I will admit I struggled in
the first part of the book watching her relive the attack, being exhausted
every day because of nightmares and fighting to keep the mask on during the
day. What I loved though was how feisty Sam was. Her humor was so
awesome; the relationship between her and Griffin melted my heart and made me
smile. I adore Ev and Hunter, they were just so cute. Megan was a
breath of fresh air as she fit right in with her sarcastic humor and spit fire
attitude. I am so glad that Megan is getting her own book next because
the ending just proved she was so worthy of it.
When the secrets behind the other
threat to Sam are revealed I was shocked. I found myself not wanting to
put the book down because the author gave me in intense read the second half of
the book. I love the strong characters she gave us with this story.
This is a great read, but please pay attention to the warning, it will stir
strong emotions for anyone who has had to deal with such issues in real life,
but it was worth the read. If you want a strong survivor to adore, Sam is
your character.
