I will admit, when I first saw the cover for this book, I
knew I had to read it. Honestly, I didn’t
even read the blurb before I had decided that, but I can say that I was
completely satisfied with the book once I had started it!
I did enjoy this book quite a bit, but I was also confused a
bit as well. With this being the first
book in the series, I was left with questions about the agency in general and
was left wondering how it started and where they learned to do what they did. The overall idea of the series though, I did
completely enjoy. I think that the author
did a great job writing a series that is nothing like the new hit books, and
having her books stand out from everything else on the market.
My one main complaint about the book would be at times it
was confusing as to who was talking and what was happening in certain
places. It felt to me like the author
had an amazing story to tell and just got ahead of herself a bit.
I thought that the characters were really well written, with
Rachel though, I kinda feel like she just jumped into things with Tristan and I
was hoping for a little more resistance on her part. But even taking that into consideration, I
still thought that the story went along quite well.
Overall, I did enjoy this book and I can’t wait to start the
next one! (Which I do recommend you have
the second book handy because you will really want to know what’s going to happen
next!)
She laid her cheek on his chest. His heart beat strong and
loud against her ear. “Are you in danger a lot?”
OK, you just told
him you didn’t want to know, so why are you asking?
He lay silent for several moments. “Immediate danger, no.
I try to avoid that. But, most situations I walk into can turn at any moment.”
She really didn’t want to know that. “Do you ever get
scared?” Just shut it, Monroe.
His voice was low, resigned. “I tell myself fear is a
decision. But, yeah, I’ve been scared.”
A disquieting sense of need came over her. She wanted to
fix that fear. She wanted to take it away from Tristan and assure him he’d
never have to fear again.
She clutched his hand in hers. “For instance...?”
Taking a deep breath, Tristan’s voice rumbled at her ear.
“Once, someone assigned me to watch over a woman. She wasn’t with me long
before I made her cry and I-“
She popped him on the chest. “Not funny, Jacobs.”
“It’s the truth.”
Rachel pulled up to look at him. “Me crying scared you?”
His eyes held a devilish twinkle. “Terrified me.”
“Are you really that big of a wuss?”
Tristan burst out laughing. The next thing she knew, she
lay flat on her back in the grass and stared up into his sparkling blue eyes.
She loved the view from this angle.
Her gaze dropped to his mouth. That gorgeous,
stubble-trimmed mouth that spouted promises she’d only heard in her dreams. It
made perfect sense that her emotions, her hormones, were totally freaking out
tonight, right? That after the day and evening she’d had, Tristan Jacobs, a
virtual stranger, made her body want for things she’d done with only two men on
earth? That in Scotland, under the full moon, with no one around to remind her she
was an idiot, Rachel wanted to make love with him in the grass of Dunnottar
Castle?
“You’re not very bright, insulting a man that has you
halfway across the world, barefoot, with no money or phone.”
Spreading her palms out over his chest, she trailed them
up his shoulders. “Well then, I may have to use whatever means necessary to
ensure I get home.”
He stilled above her. “Aidan would kill me.”
“Then it’s a good thing Aidan isn’t here.”

After finishing book 1, I couldn’t wait to start Aiden’s
story. And I can say that I wasn’t
completely disappointed with his story once I started it!
I think that the author did another amazing job with this
story line because she added details and twists that I couldn’t see
coming. All of those just added to the story
on an amazing level. I did enjoy how
with the main characters in this book, Aiden and Cassandra, we had already met
them in the previous book. We were just
able to spend a bit more time with them and get to know them better.
I did like that there was more sci-fi in this book, which is
funny because I’m not normally a sci-fi reader!
But those parts in this book were done extremely well, to the point
where I didn’t get lost or even want to skip any pages because I was so
confused. I think that the author did a
great job with those parts of the story.
My serious complaint about this book would be how quickly
Cassandra switched sides. While I do
understand the whole “instant attraction” thing, I was confused a bit as to why
she would do that, with what seemed like, so little concern about everything
else. My real concern would be all the
drama that was taking place in the book.
There were certain times that it
felt like the drama was overtaking everything else that was happening in the
story.
I did like that the author gave each man a different
power. That was really awesome in my
opinion because we weren’t reading the same stories over and over in regards to
what they could do.
Overall, I did enjoy this second book in the series and I
can’t wait to read more!
“Aidan Monroe, is that you?”
He knew that voice. Knew it too damned well. He’d heard it
in the laughter of youth, the throes of passion, the anger of breakup the night
she’d humiliated him.
“Hey, Sandy.” He leaned down to look into the car. His high
school sweetheart was still pretty, though the lines around her mouth and eyes
made her look beyond her age.
She tossed her brown hair over her shoulder. “I heard you
were mixed up in all of the stuff going on around here.” Her eyes bounced to
Cassandra cuffed next to him.
Cassandra reached into the car and offered her hand for a shake.
“I’m Cassandra.” She nodded toward the cuffs. “Aidan likes to get a little
kinky, if you know what I mean.”
A suggestive blush stole over Sandy’s face. “As a matter of
fact, I do.”
Aidan stretched out his arm in front of Cassandra, backing
her away. “Okay, time to go.” Obviously, the woman thrived on making trouble.
“Give Trent and I a call before you leave town. Maybe the
four of us can do… something.” Wiggling her fingers at them, Sandra pulled
away.
“Yeah, when hell freezes over.” Aidan tugged on Cassandra’s
cuffed arm and starting walking again.
“A heartbreaker, huh?”
A career-breaker, yes. Heartbreaker, no. “Nope.”
The breeze lifted Cassandra’s hair from her shoulders. The
smell of grapefruit filled his nostrils.
“What do I wear to… something
with Sandy and Trent? Cocktail, casual…?”
Aidan glared at her. “You won’t be doing much socializing
where you’re going.”
She purred under her breath. “Mmm, sounds intriguing. Where
are you taking me?” Hugging his arm, she gazed up at him under heavy-lidded
eyes.
Look away, Monroe.
Eyes ahead.
He kept walking. She would not get to him.
“How are your gonads?”
Aidan stopped short. Cassandra stopped a second later. Talk
about gonads. The woman had them. He couldn’t believe she brought that up.
Men had their pride. Didn’t she know that?
She gave him a raised brow and another cheeky grin.
Of course she did.
Leaning in close, Aidan lowered his voice as he inhaled the
grapefruit scent of her hair. “My gonads are like steel, baby. Want a feel?”
Cassandra swallowed hard, a blush blossoming up her cheeks.
She shook her head.
Aidan kept walking. “How’s the head?”
She cleared her throat. “Still has a knot on it. I may have
to press charges.”
“Now you have one in the front to match.”
Rubbing at her forehead, she frowned. “Blast it. Now, I
probably look like the Elephant Man, right?” She stopped to let him stare at
her.
Taking in her ridiculous high-heeled tennis shoes, up her
unfairly perfect legs, past her tiny waist and lingering on her full breasts
way too long, his gaze met hers.
Hands planted on her hips, she cocked an eyebrow. “You
didn’t even look at my forehead.”
Mmm, nope. “Why would I do that? I’ve already seen it.”
A fierce, red blush stole up her face and neck. She started
walking again. “You’re so typical.”
“You said I was beautiful.”
She stopped again. At this point, they may get to the
hospital by nightfall.
“I was delirious from electrocution.”
“The truth tends to come out during times of duress.”
“Hah.” She started walking again. “Don’t kid yourself.”
Chuckling to himself, Aidan thought it interesting that
Cassandra Naylor had a prideful streak a mile wide.
“I heard it with my own ears. You can’t deny it.”
“I will deny it to my dying day, Mr... shoot, I don’t even
know you’re name.”
“Aidan. Aidan Monroe.”
She stopped to stare at him, her eyes round in her ashen
face. “Monroe? As in Jim Monroe?”
It all came crashing in on Aidan. Cassandra Naylor and her
family were probably responsible for his father’s death. Her father and brother
had kidnapped Rachel and held her at gunpoint. Her brother had tried to shoot
his mother. How could he stand here and flirt with her like this?
“Yes, Jim Monroe, the man your father had killed, was my
father.”
Her eyes widened.
“Your father deserves to burn in hell. I wish he would’ve
just died yesterday and saved us all a lot of trouble.”
The sting to his cheek cut like a newly-sharpened blade.
Considering Cassandra had delivered it, he was surprised it hadn’t been a chop
to the throat.
AGENT T3: D'ARTAGNAN

Turbulent times come to a head when the past sends its own version of destruction to the future in the midst of long-awaited retribution. Can Dar escape his past to save the future? Or, does fate have its own reckoning in mind?
So I have completely mixed feelings about this book…. Don’t
get me wrong, I did enjoy it, but I felt like there was a lot of drama taking
place in this book and that overshadowed everything else that was happening.
d'Artagnan was mentioned in the other books in the series as
the bad guy, so I was a bit confused as to how quickly he jumped that ship and
became a good guy. But I did like him as
the good guy!!! We are more introduced
to Jocelyn in this story; she is one of the main characters of the story. I personally thought by adding her character with
her backstory was an awesome move on the authors part. I really enjoyed how they found out they
weren’t the only ones with certain powers.
I did enjoy how they figured out how to give d'Artagnan his
powers, and combining the others to help make him stronger and better at
it. And I also enjoyed the major blast from
the past that had happened during the book on a few occasions.
But like I said earlier, I personally felt that all the
drama that had happened in this book was just too intense and over took a lot
of what was happening. There were quite
a few scenes that were about everything else, that I actually lost track of
what d'Artagnan and Jocelyn were dealing with.
Overall, I did enjoy the series as a whole and I will keep
an eye out for this author in the future to see what else they bring us to
read!
The sound of running water woke her. Sitting up in bed, she
cocked her head.
It came from her lavatory.
Someone was in her bathroom.
Looking around, she needed to find a gun. Something to use as a weapon.
Spotting a leather bag on her table, she reached over and
pulled it into her lap. Rummaging around inside, she found a gun and checked
the chamber.
No bullets. Rats.
It would have to do.
Sitting up on the side of the bed, her head swam. Bracing
herself on the mattress, she took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Weakness
would not hinder her. She had to stay
alert.
Standing up, her legs wobbled slightly, the floor frigid
beneath her bare feet. Approaching the bathroom with careful movements, her
heart pounded against her ribs in staccato beats. She darted into the doorway,
the gun pointed in front of her.
A huge, sun-kissed man stood half naked at her lavatory,
his eyes wide with surprise. He had large, bare feet and solid, well-developed
calves. A white towel rode low on his hips, covering him from knee to navel.
His abdomen and chest looked chiseled in stone, with ridges like a turtle
shell. His muscular arms were massive, his wide, bulky shoulders filling the
tiny room.
Shaving cream covered his right cheek, his aqua eyes framed
in long eyelashes. He had a dreamy, white smile and long, dark hair that clung
to his nape in wet strands.
A movement at his hips drew her gaze. Her face filled with
fire.
“It’s just me. You can put down the gun.”
She remembered his deep, soothing voice, remembered him
sitting beside her on the bed and holding her hand. A sense of calm washed over
her, a feeling of trust.
Was he important to her? A boyfriend or husband, perhaps?
If he didn’t play either role, she had to be a complete
fool. The man gave new meaning to the term gorgeous.
She lowered the gun. “I, I’m sorry. I’m a little… confused
right now.”
Nodding, he turned off the water and wiped his face clean
of shaving cream. “I know, Jocelyn.”
Her gaze shot to his face. “Is that my name?”
“Yes. Your name is Jocelyn Chalmers.”
Hanging the towel on a rack, he closed in on her - or maybe
it appeared that way in the small space. Her heart galloped out of control, her
gaze two millimeters from the wall of dark hair on his glistening chest. He
held a woodsy scent, with a hint of spearmint.
She inhaled deeply. He smiled. The total effect made her
knees weak.
She braced herself against the door jam.
“If you give me a minute, I’ll get on some clothes, okay?”
Her head bobbled like a daft slinky toy.
Rubbing her temples, Jocelyn went to the window in her
room. Her head ached and her face felt like someone had punched her -
repeatedly. The doctor said a car hit her. It felt more like a tank.
Would the throbbing ever stop?
Jocelyn Chalmers. How could she not know her own name? How
could she not remember one blasted thing about herself?
She stared at the radio tower in the distance. Nothing felt
familiar – only him. His deep, baritone voice brought immediate comfort, the
memory of his warm, strong hand on hers relaxing her shoulders.
At least she wasn’t alone. At least she had someone to help
her find her memory and get home – wherever that was.
“Are you hungry?”
Jocelyn turned her back on the empty field outside her
window. He stood in the bathroom doorway, looking far too appealing for her
peace of mind. Faded denims clung to his narrow hips and thighs, a black
t-shirt stretched tight across his wide shoulders.
Tingling started in her lower belly and sprouted throughout
her body. She wanted to run to him, to throw her arms around his waist and beg
him to tell her everything would be all right.
Caution held her back.
“I’m starved, but I’d really like something to drink.”
“What would you like? I’ll get it for you.”
Panic squeezed her chest, her breath hitching up a notch.
“You’re leaving?”
With a warm smile, he shook his head as he ushered her to
the chair. “No, I’ll have someone deliver it.”
She lowered her brows. Why did she panic that way? Why did
the thought of being alone terrify her?
“You name it – a soft drink, iced tea, latte, or something
stiffer?” He grinned boyishly.
“What is a latte?”
By day, Joni Hahn keeps her secret decoder ring hidden while she works as a mild-mannered HR manager and accounting generalist. She believes the world can never have too many superheroes, and anxiously waits for the call when one will need help saving the world… or getting into his costume. Joni was born with a hopelessly tender heart and believes there is nothing more exhilarating than falling in love (Other than the rear shot of Chris Evans in The Avengers - that was pretty darn exhilarating). A native Texan, she thinks cowboys are the epitome of masculinity, and that country music is the other soul music.
