Finally a book with just the right
amount of suspense and plenty of mystery. Barbara Winkes gave us a taste
of budding love story between two women both with secrets they are holding
close that will soon depend on each other for their very lives.
Marsha Taylor is in need of a break,
from her PI job, her social life; basically she just needs a break from society
and life. Heading out for a short vacation alone she runs across Jessica
or should I say Jessie runs into her. Wanting to be selfish and leave her
there, Marsha knows she can’t so she takes Jessie along for the ride.
After issues occur they had to make new plans and ended up in the bed and
breakfast located in the middle of nowhere.
Strange things start happening to
Marsha’s car, she gets disturbing gifts and now she finds out about the deaths
that have been occurring. There is no way this could have anything to do
with her but her background won’t allow her to leave it. When Jessie and
Marsha find there might be some spark between them, things start to take a huge
turn for the dangerous side.
There are secondary characters that
bring a much needed element to this story and soon you begin caring about their
story as much as you do about Marsha and Jessie. We find that this small town
is full of people who have their own kind of secrets, an obsessed ex-boyfriend
that won’t let Jessie go and a small town police department that might be doing
more harm than good with the secrets they carry.
I was not able to figure out who was
doing the harm till the end and yes the way the author wrote this, I had plenty
to pick from but no one stood out more than the other. I love taking a
break from the regular books I read for a good mystery book with a little taste
of love. Make sure you get this book and sit back and enjoy.
