Somebody Worth It Cover
Millie has struggled over the years to keep the spark alive in her relationship. Starting at a young age her life has been a series of trials and tribulations, and it’s only getting more complicated. She’s followed stepping stones that she wasn't always sure were leading her in the right direction, causing her to wonder if she is on the right path.
Her husband, Brian, loves her dearly, but has a poor way of showing it. Stress easily beats him down, and his own protective nature seems to fight against him. He’s shutting down, virtually ignoring and alienating the people around him when they need him the most.
Millie lost her job and they’re about to lose the house. On the verge of losing it all, she questions everything. Where did it all go wrong? How did they get to this point? However, the answers could be more unsettling than anticipated.
Hearts will be broken when long held secrets are revealed. Is a chance at happiness worth the destruction it leaves in its wake? Is it worth the risk? Worth the pain for everyone involved? Worth the effort? Is she somebody worth it?

I will say off the bat that this book has a helluva cliffhanger.  It’s such a cliffy cliffhanger, that I can’t even be mad about it; I can only be mad if the second book does not land in my hands as soon as is humanly possible.
What I really liked about this book is that it mirrors real life, which is what contemporary romance should do anyway.  Millie has been married to Brian for 15 years, basically since she graduated from high school.  She’s followed the steps she thought she should have in her life, but now she finds herself at a crossroads in her marriage.  Money has been stressful, she’s lost her job and now they’re going to lose their home.  Brian is closed off and pushing her away and she’s left feeling alone and abandoned when she needs him the most.  Enter Dean, Millie’s old high school flame. Will Millie see her marriage through and remain faithful, or will the temptation of greener pastures with a different man end life as she knows it?
Well, holy love triangle, this was a whopper!  I’m not sure who I am meant to want Millie with, her husband Brian or Dean.  At different points I was firmly Team Dean, then at others firmly Team Brian.  Though, I have to admit, Millie grated on my nerves a bit.  Part of me understood her feelings on her life, but she definitely ended up coming off as a bit of a shrew.  There’s a lot of shrieking involved when it comes to Millie, though I can understand it. I just didn’t like her as much as I think I was supposed to, even if I did get where she was coming from.
There was a lot of sex in this book, and you know I like sex as much (if not more) than the average reader.  Sometimes, however, there are books that have too much sex in them.  So much that it almost seems to be boring.  I did find myself skimming through the sex scenes in this book after a point, which is unusual for me.  It’s not that they were poorly done, they were just too numerous and almost detracted from the plot for me.
I did, however, love the overall plot of this book.  The ending is KILLER (come on JULY!!!) and honestly accounts for 2 of the stars I’m giving this book.  It’s such a great ending…it’s like you think you know where the story is going and then BAM!  It’s exactly what a cliffhanger should be.  Oh my.
Overall, even though there are some things I didn’t like about this book, I still found myself unable to put it down.  I finished it in one day and am now trying to patiently await book 2.  Patiently…4 stars.

Let’s face it marriage and divorce can get very ugly and the author did a fabulous job at showing just how bad it can get without over doing it.  When Millie and Brian took their vows 15 years ago and brought a daughter into the world, they thought they had it made.  Life stresses, parenting, finances, lack of communication and plain exhaustion of trying to make it work finally broke the home they had built.
Finding herself now as a single parent to her teenage daughter just added a new level of stress for Millie and I will be honest, some of her attitudes in this book ticked me off but then I had to step back and remember this is all new to her, especially when her old high school boyfriend Dean appeared.  So what does she do, work on repairing her marriage to Brian or focus on herself for once and explore the chance with Dean.
This is a rather short book that reads smoothly and keeps your attention.  It was so easy for me to be caught up in the day to day drama of Millie that I was not prepared for the cliff hanger ending that the author provided.  I was left questioning the phrase “I have to do what is best for me” because it was clear that Millie was confused as to what was best for her.  The raw emotions of letting go or deciding when to fight for your marriage was so strong it was hard not to find myself in the vortex of emotions with them.
The writing style of this author made this story come to life, not only with her way of describing the scenes, but by making it feel so real, it was impossible to not be able to connect because we have all had someone in our lives, if not ourselves in the shoes of Millie and Brian.  I think the author did a great job as putting the confusion in words that we could grasp and for those emotions in which there were no words, she was able to show us through character actions.
I would highly recommend this book and look forward to the next book in this series which is scheduled to be released this summer.
