When James Riley transfers to Cloverley University, he is
instantly on the radar of the most elusive secret society on campus, the
Lappell. James is an artist. A loner. A free thinker. He doesn't believe in
secret societies and wants nothing to do with them. That is, until everything changes.
Until he meets her. Anais. The girl who changes it all. The girl who makes him
willing to do whatever it takes to own her heart. But the deeper he falls in
love, the deeper he sinks into the secret society that has a hold of her. And
the further he gets caught up in their world, the more he scrapes the edges
about a past he knew nothing about. James has no idea how much of his life is a
part of a story that once broke down the walls of the Lappell, many years ago.
Who can he trust when love and lies collide?
This is James’s story. The spin off story to the PIECES OF LIES trilogy. Can be read as a standalone series.
Fiendish Play is new adult romance. It will be part of a two book series and contains
some mature sexual content.
Holy
Crap, what did I just read? Whatever it was I want no I NEED more.
I can honestly say I get that phrase “you had me at hello” because this author
had me at first page. I would just love to find someone who has read this
series and sit down for hours and try to untwist this plot and figure out what
I missed, explode in excitement over what I got and try to predict where this
story is going
I will
warn you now; you will not be getting details of this story from my
review. I refuse to take away the shock value for you readers with this
story and trust me you will have a HUGE shock value. This book is like
walking through a haunted house and just waiting for the next monster to jump
out at you. So let me tell you about the characters who stole my heart.
James is
an art student who is coming from Europe against his parents’ wishes to study
one year under his idol Professor Liam Aston at Cloverley University. He
knows this is going to be the boost to his art career and he was over joyed he
was accepted. So he put up with his mother and step fathers warning about
secret societies that are in American Universities and all of the other evil
pitfalls that country had to offer. Once he got here he met up with his
new roommate Marcus, whose parents were friends with James’ parents. I
have to say I loved Marcus; he was so funny and adorable.
On his
first night there James meets Anais in circumstances that are going to be step
one in sending James life into a vortex of danger, lies and suspicion. We
are going to see what James will do for the love of Anais and how far she will
go to keep him out of danger. As the lies are exposed James is going to
realize he doesn’t have a clue who he is or where he came from. It will
appear like everyone on Earth knows more about him than he does himself.
Anais was
born into a life of secrets, torture and danger all wrapped up in darkness that
she has accepted. Until she met James she had no idea that there were
options for her life. In the world of Lappell, you are born into the
society and you must remain. As she finds out who the players are and what role
she has, her plans for escape becomes even more desperate. Before James
she only felt her Uncle Liam was on her side, but now she not only has a
protector in James, she is also going to need to protect him so history won’t
repeat itself with her life.
Liam has
his own closet of secrets and desires that drive him. Memories of what he
has lost because of this society are what drive his motives and decisions with his
niece. He knows what James and Anais are up against, but he can’t warn
them or he would put their lives in more danger.
I have no
shame in admitting that this book kept me up most of the night, once I was
sucked in there was no letting go till I got to the ending. It was at
that point I was screaming for more instantly because I need to find out what
happens next. Oh I can promise you this author is now on my favorite list
and while I wait for the next book of James to come out later this year, I will
be going back to the first series to find out how Liam became who he is
today. Before I even finished this book I was already recommending the
whole series to others. What a brilliant talent this author has, don’t
miss this crazy journey.
What the fuck was going
on here? I moved closer, brushing along the leaves, making a
rustling sound. Her head lifted up from off her chest hearing the noise I had
made. It was then that I saw her face for the first time. I swallowed back
something lodged in my throat. Amongst my need to get closer and help, I was
completely thrown by her beauty which made my body instantly react. I had to
force myself to breathe, even consciously telling my brain to swallow down a
breath so I wouldn’t pass out from loss of air. I had never had this type of
reaction from seeing a girl before. Perhaps it was because I was trying to make
sense of the urgent situation she was in, but the smarter, more logical side of
my brain told me something different. It told me that my inability to use my
body like a normal person had something to do with my heart constricting and my
pulse racing at the sight of those big brown eyes that were red and glossy with
pained emotion. That, and the fact I was drawn irresistibly to her pale skin
against her chocolate-brown hair. Just the look on her innocent face screamed
at me for an escape. Her image had grounded me like nothing I had ever known. It
was scary. It was beautiful. She looked like a fallen angel in the moonlight. Then
she did something which moved me into immediate action. She mouthed the words
‘help me’.
