Being happy. It sounds so simple. Yet, it seems that it’s always just out of reach for Shannon Ryan.
After serving overseas for six years as a female United States Marine, Ryan is finally getting out the military. But coming home to live with her biker brother and his motorcycle club is more difficult than she thought it would be. Much has changed in the years that she has been gone, including Ellis, her brother’s best friend and childhood crush.
Ellis 'Dirty' Crane is the second in command for Tormented Souls Motorcycle Club. The only thing he lives for is the club, that is until Ryan comes home, no longer the wild little girl that followed him around. The two things standing in his way of getting what he wants are Patrick, Ryan's brother and leader of the club, and Jeremiah, Ryan’s boyfriend.
Can Ellis break through Ryan’s walls? Burn them and Jeremiah down? Prove to her brother that he’s the right man for her? Or is Ryan hiding more than she’s letting on?
I’ll just state outright that I felt this wasn’t so much an MC book as
it just was a romance. I’m okay with
that, because I think MC books are waaaaay overdone. As a romance, it was a page turner!
Ryan has just been discharged from the military and she is returning
home to her brother, who happens to be the President of the Tormented Souls
MC. Ryan has a big secret, and a
boyfriend that she wants to rid herself of.
She’s a bit directionless after leaving the Marines, and throwing her
brother’s best friend and MC VP Ellis into the mix isn’t helping matters. This
is really a book about a woman finding out where she belongs when her whole
world changes, and understanding how different people fit into the new, and
scary, landscape of her life.
First off, I thought Ryan was a great character. She is strong (hell yeah, she was a Marine!)
but very complex. I could not believe
her secret when it was finally revealed…it was a tear-jerker, which I didn’t
expect to happen. But I really liked the
overall soul searching that Ryan seemed to be doing in her life. Not to mention, Ellis is a hell of an alpha
male badass distraction.
I have to give kudos to Rachel here because she did not break my
cardinal rule of alpha males, which is to be bossy, sure…but take care of your
woman’s heart. Treat her like the prize
that she is. Ellis was that man. He wedges his way into Ryan’s world against
her better judgment, and he seems to be exactly what she needed all along.
I will say that I was a bit surprised as to the plot of this
book. It did not have the MC book feel
at all. It’s emotional, yes, but it’s
not gritty. And the MC was really more
of a side note to the story than a major character or setting. They came in to save the day a few times, but
other than that this was really a romance novel. I’m not complaining, I still enjoyed it, but
it was not what I was expecting.
Overall, I thought this was a well written and well thought out
story. I was touched by Ryan and what
she was going through. And I’d like an
Ellis of my very own, please. 4 stars.
I just finished Her Ride and I really liked
it. Anything with bikers is a go for me, as you all know. Ryan has
been in the military for awhile and is on her way home to take a break and then
do some soul searching. She has a lot to think about, some secrets are
known and some are hidden but either way she has some tough decisions to
make. Leaving a very overbearing and jealous boyfriend Jeremiah to seeing
her over protective brother Patrick can put a damper on things. What
makes things a little bit complicated is Ellis. Her one time crush or so
she thought until she saw him. Ellis is acting different towards her too.
He has tamed his wild ways and has finally seen the light….Ryan.
Ryan doesn’t know what to think. First, she is in a relationship now
granted, she is wanting to end it with Jeremiah so that makes way for Ellis.
With so many secrets, she does not want to put Ellis through all her
emotional problems but what Ellis when Ellis doesn’t take no for an answer?
You will have to read and see…
I really enjoyed this book. I thought it
flowed really well and like I said I am all about bikers so this was right up
my alley. I will say that I thought that it was tamer then some other
biker books that I have read recently. Did it take away from the story,
nope, I still enjoyed it. I liked that it was in her point of view,
you really got to see her. I am all for both point of views but this was
ok that it was just her. I could still feel Elli’s character and sometimes
you don’t get that when it is just in one view.
Ellis was a hottie, that’s for sure. He was
sexy and sweet and he really just wanted to project Ryan. That is the
alpha in him and I do not blame him for that. Ryan was a touch
girl. I liked that most about her. She didn’t take anyone’s crap
but at times was vulnerable and even though you find out things about her, it
still made her real. I loved the chemistry between Ellis and Ryan, it was
over the top but you will not getting any complaints from me about that.
They both were dirty and couldn’t get enough from each other and I wanted more.
I liked the secondary characters and I like how
Rachael is setting up for the next in the series. Patrick is a hottie too
and cannot wait to see what his story will be like. Other characters like
Monk and Brew, yummy. I’m just gonna sit here “patiently” waiting!
NOT!!
This was a first read for me from Rachael and I
know that this is more out of her comfort zone from what I heard on other books
that she has written but she did an amazing job. She should be proud.
