Jason stopped at the host stand. “Table for one.”

She grabbed a menu. “Would you like one in the back?”

He nodded gratefully and followed her to the back of the nearly empty restaurant. It was near closing time and the tables were nearly empty, except for a few stragglers finishing their desserts.

He rounded the corner to a more secluded section and groaned inwardly when he saw the short, spiky hair. While he enjoyed the red tips Blaze had sported when they first met, he really liked this change too. Blaze was just hot.

The hostess set his menu down but he barely noticed her going through her patter for who his server was or what the fish special was. He was falling into Blaze’s aqua eyes again, just like the first time they met in San Antonio.

The guitarist was different now. Before, Blaze had been innocent and full of wonder but now he had matured into a grittier, darker version of himself and Jason found the change nearly irresistible.

“Shouldn’t you be out with your band mates?” Jason asked as he unfolded his menu.

He didn’t answer right away. Instead he pressed his full lips together and Jason remembered kissing those full lips while tasting his sweet, hot tongue. He bit back a groan just as Blaze answered. “They weren’t going anywhere I liked.”

“So are you sitting over here sulking for not getting your way?” The barb flew out so naturally, Jason didn’t even have time to think about it and instantly regretted his words.

Blaze recoiled for a moment but then held up his beer. “Does it look like I’m sulking?”

“Actually, it does. I figured you’d be out fucking the first available hole by now.”

Blaze’s mouth dropped open. “Sounds like you’re bitter that you can’t get a piece of me.”

“No. Just reminiscing. I knew you when you were a one hit wonder,” Jason said.

“I knew you back when you were being truthful about your sexuality.” Blaze threw out a barb of his own just to see if Jason would lose his cool.

Jason narrowed his eyes. “Well, flaunting it in everyone’s face only works well for you.”

The bright red spots on Blaze’s cheeks reminded Jason of when they used to make love, though now they were dark from anger. Jason’s cock didn’t know the difference as it responded and pressed against his zipper.

As their waiter came toward them, Jason adjusted himself discreetly and moved in his chair to hide his erection. He stopped to take Jason’s order, which blocked him from seeing Blaze for a moment but when he left, those unforgettable aqua eyes were full of fire again.

Blaze narrowed his eyes and set down his fork. “So when’s the wedding?”

Jason narrowed his eyes. “I didn’t know you read the rags. You must ignore everything they say about you and your band then.”

“You mean the blurbs where Zack has a girlfriend in every city? Oh, all those are true. I’ve learned that sometimes, as much as we hate the intrusion in our private lives, there is always some truth behind the rumors.”

Jason looked away. He didn’t owe Blaze any explanations about his life now, but he wanted to banish the anger in his ex’s eyes. How could he tell Blaze about the lie he had been living for the past six months, especially when Blaze lived with an openness he envied?
