Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.
Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.
One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favourite son is sure to be a wild ride.

I
will admit I was expecting this book to turn into an over indulgent rock star
story with lots of groupies, drugs, parties and tabloid drama but this wasn’t
that type of story AT ALL. This was a
different take on rock stars and romance. The characters were engaging and the
rock star aspect was more of a background bonus.
Lick is the story of a hot sexy tattooed musician looking for more than fawning fan girls and drunken wild nights. David Ferris is a gifted guitarist and member of the popular rock band Stage Dive. He’s a gentle soul looking for something more meaningful in his life. His band is at the top of their game but his personal life isn’t exactly in a happy place. His brother Jimmy, the lead singer of the band, is spiraling out of control, David hasn’t been inspired to write any new songs lately and the band is suffering because of it. He’s ready to make some major changes in his life and a spur of the moment trip to Vegas gives him that chance.
Evelyn Thomas isn’t a wild child rock groupie. She’s more of a follow the rules, country music listening, stick to the plan type. She’s got a clear life plan set out for her. She’s going start an internship at a prestigious architect firm, graduate from college at the top of her class and become the architect her father has envisioned for her. There is just one kink in her plans, they aren’t HER plans nor is it HER dreams she pursuing, it’s her parents. She’s not exactly content with her life and she’s looking for some excitement, even if it’s just for one weekend.
On her 21st Birthday she heads off to Vegas with her best friend Lauren to have a little fun and let loose. What Evelyn doesn’t count on is waking up in a tequila-induced haze, with a tattoo and a new husband who happens to be one of the biggest rock stars in the world. She never expected that one night in Vegas would become the most defining moment in her life.
Ev and David’s romance starts off on a rocky course. First, Evelyn doesn’t even remember the night in Vegas that lead to her getting married to a complete stranger and second she’s bound and determined to stick to her life plan which doesn’t include a sexy rock star husband, being hounded by paparazzi, and living in a Hollywood mansion filled with groupies. She didn’t sign up for any of this and she wants out, fast.
David on the other hand is upset that this woman who liked him for HIM, who he had an immediate connection with doesn’t even remember what was one of the best nights of his life. He lets his anger and frustration with Evelyn take over. As a result he says and does some things that drive Evelyn away.

“It’s not fair that I remember you
and you don’t, Evelyn.”
After battling through their own personal issues and learning how to trust one another they realize that they are meant to be together. Evelyn grounds David in a way that he needs and helps him find the security, stability, warmth, love and trust he craves. Evelyn has lots of insecurities and is trying to figure out what she really wants in life. She’s unsure about herself and the path she wants to take but she decides that she’s not going to let that stand in her way and with David by her side lending his support Evelyn stands up to her parents, steps out on her own path and takes control of her life.
“I married you, Evelyn, because you made sense to me. We make sense. We're a whole lot better together than apart.”
The two are a perfect match with a sweet steamy romance that will have readers smiling and excited to delve into the next Stage Dive story. I know I was smiling and immediately searching for the next book.
