Six weeks ago Angel had
it all—a brand-new master’s degree, an apartment with her best friend,
Brad, and the chance to take their friendship to a whole hot new level.
But on the night of their first kiss, a would-be rapist ripped her
bright future apart. Stuck in a never-ending cycle of fear and
depression, Angel is determined to find herself again, even if it means
putting herself at risk.
Brad has loved Angel since he saved her from a playground bully in the fifth grade. But just as it seemed Angel’s eyes were opening to the true feelings between them, it all fell apart. When Angel disappears on the night of a freak snowstorm, Brad is determined to find her. And when he does, he won't let her hide any longer. It's time to wake her up—to a life without fear, and to a love that can heal the deepest wounds.

I
found this to be an emotional short read. The characters Angel and Brad
won me over instantly with their friendship and devotion to each other. I
loved how the author showed us the light bulb moment when each of them realized
their feelings for each other went past best friends and into what could be
their soul mates. As I was celebrating that they would find each other
now with honesty and courage to risk the friendship to see what was there,
Angel’s life came to a crashing halt. What is she to do when she had her
dreams in the palm of her hand, an interview that she could only wish for and
was willing to make the move towards Brad and evil strikes?
Her
heart and mind battered and bruised she no longer trusted what she saw or the
people in her life. Brad is going to have to be patient with her and help
her heal but there is going to come a time when it will be fight or flight.
He has taken care of her since a bully went after her in fifth
grade. He has been there for her through her teenage years when she had
no one. Will this time be different; is it the final straw for him in
rescuing Angel? Will he fight to get his Angel back or will he move on
and forever wonder if they would have made it before evil destroyed what they
had.
As
I stated this was a short book, quick read but I was impressed with the amount
of action and emotion the author put in this book. The character
development was wonderful considering she had limited time and words to do it.
I look forward to her next book and I feel she is going to take us even deeper
into the emotional pool. I always admire authors who can take sensitive
subjects and give us a story with realism and care, respecting those who have
been through the event and educating those who haven’t. This author did a
great job in this book at doing just that.
I
would recommend this for an evening or weekend read if you are looking for
something that will tug at your heart and remind you what love and devotion
really is.
This was a really enjoyable read for
me. Just a Little More deals with the
struggles that Angel and Brad face in the aftermath of Angel’s assault. That
the assault occurred almost immediately after Angel and Brad admitted their
feelings for one another and made plans to take the next step in their
relationship is what makes this book so heart wrenching.
Because this is a novella, Ms.
Sheridan makes the necessary jumps in time that keep the story moving forward
and does so effectively that, as a reader, I never felt as though I was missing
anything – I didn’t need to read the details of Angel’s attack, her time in the
hospital, or the six weeks of ever-increasing depression she experienced to
understand her and Brad’s actions and sympathize with their plight. This
allowed her to focus the story on Angel and Brad’s relationship and this led to
one seriously sexy scene when Angel finally accepted that she was ready to move
forward from the attack. Again, shower sex scenes are awesome!!! I needed a
cold shower myself by the time Brad got through.
Just
a Little More
is an engaging read. Despite the fact that its premise is based on a brutal
attack, it is a story of survival and love. I could not help but root for Brad
as he stood strong and did all that he could to help Angel deal with her
assault and loved her no matter what. While this is the third novella in Ms.
Sheridan’s Secrets to Hide series, it can be read as a stand-alone; I did, but
I would like to go back and read books one and two as I am interested in Alex
and Damien’s stories. I’m also looking forward to the next book in the series
as it looks like Ryan is up next.
