I
will admit I have not read the other books prior to this one but they are on my
must read list now and this author is on my list of favorite dark and twisted
reads. Wow oh wow the story you are about to take on is going to blow
your mind. I lost sleep last night because I could NOT put this book
down. Let’s just say it now that I can’t give you details in the review
because every page is like a spoiler alert it is so packed with drama and
suspense, action and love and loyalty that will blow you away. The author
has given us a group of figher, thieves and murders who become a family that I
could only wish to be part of. Once you are part of their circle you are
in for life and will be protected from every enemy that attacks.
Quinn,
aka Darcy escaped her family of crime eight years ago. She had to make a
choice between living with her family’s dealings and evil doings or become a
ghost on the street alone. She was doing the best she could and using her
street smarts to survive. She met a man named Ian who ran a warehouse for
fighters. He tried to help her as much as she would allow and during one
of her trips to the gym to shower and wash her clothes she meets Kieran.
Oh he is a sexy fighter who had me melting at the first scene. Being a
bit over zealous, Quinn does a bit of physical damage to Kieran when he tried
to involve himself in her business and help. That didn’t stop the man
from continuing to step up and demand she allow him to help her when it became
clear she was in over her head.
Quinn
was approached with a situation that was going to change her life forever and
bring in the adorable Jack who stole my heart. Jack’s story only speed up
my heart melting feelings for Kieran as we watched this giant of a man
surrender and take care of Jack and seek revenge on the man who had terrified
Jack and his mother. It was clear that no one would be allowed to hurt a
person Kieran claimed as family and Quinn wasn’t beyond tearing off a few body
parts either if they came near those she vowed to love and care for. With
Quinn and Kieran as a team now, the story just kept getting better and better
as they go against the mob and crime lords in order to find peace in their
life.
For
the reader who loves violence, suspense, and intense moments plus revenge you
will be in heaven with this book. Not only are our heroes battling the
demons that have resurfaced from the past, they are going to have to tackle the
current monsters that threaten to take away their future. Out of
everything in this book that I loved and there is a lot, I still smile when I
think back to grown men who could battle a grizzly bear with their fight and
size, all be reduced to muffins when it comes to children. I adored this
part of the story, every time Jack walked into a scene, the burley men became
his buddies and they would crawl on the ground to help remind Jack he was safe
now. It was fascinating to watch Quinn go from this tough little cookie who
only had to take care of herself to a woman who felt the mothering instincts to
children that weren’t even hers. Her love and nurturing ways, although
not fostered by her own mother, came out strong in this story and made me
respect and love her instantly.
I
could go on for hours about this book but I would threaten the attachment and
love you will hopefully find in this story and with these characters. Shrouded
in Blackness does leave you with a cliff hanger making you crave more so be
prepared. I personally am ready to forget all my other commitments and
just grab all of the books in this series and hide out till I am done.
Reading the rest of the series from this author is now a must for me and
I would so recommend this to anyone who is a hard core reader that doesn’t get
turned off by the reality of mobs, violence and street life. This book is
certainly on my top ten lists now.
