Red Dirt Heart by N.R. Walker

Welcome to Sutton Station: One of the world’s largest working farms in the middle of Australia – where if the animals and heat don’t kill you first, your heart just might.

Charlie Sutton runs Sutton Station the only way he knows how; the way his father did before him. Determined to keep his head down and his heart in check, Charlie swears the red dirt that surrounds him – isolates him – runs through his veins.

American agronomy student Travis Craig arrives at Sutton Station to see how farmers make a living from one of the harshest environments on earth. But it’s not the barren, brutal and totally beautiful landscapes that capture him so completely, it’s the man with the red dirt heart.

Please note: This book is set in Australia, using Australian English and lingo.

This is the first book in the Red Dirt Heart series and it is set in the Northern Territory of Australia.  I was a little scared that the colloquialisms would make it too hard to understand but there was a glossary of terms at the beginning of the book and most of the phrases were explained so it was actually really fun.  I especially loved that Travis is from Texas and the two main characters would bicker about what terms are the correct ones.

Travis and Charlie are very loveable characters from the beginning and I wanted their relationship to succeed.    It was so hard to watch Charlie fight his sexuality based on the views of his dead father, but it was refreshing to watch Travis stick up for their relationship and be honest with his wants and needs.  This book was so fun for me because it was an introduction to a whole new breed of cowboys while still including a Texas one for posterity’s sake.

Overall this is a great story with a beautiful romance between two sexy and stubborn cowboys.  This story will hook you in the beginning and leave you satisfied in the end but wanting more anyways.
