Discovery means death but Arissa risks everything to save Fleet officer
Jolar's life. Repaying this telepath means saving her from execution and
Jolar strikes a bargain that will spare her life. In return, Arissa
must join him on a dangerous mission and use her telepathic abilities to
help him uncover hidden forces that threaten the Tellaran Realm.
Jolar will do whatever it takes to clear his life debt to Arissa. The
only thing he absolutely cannot let himself do is fall in love with her .
. .
Note: The Seer is a stand-alone novel but it takes place in a universe (The Tellaran Realm) where one already published book (Stardancer) takes place.
Ms.
MacArran has just been added to my must-read list for sci-fi romances. I
absolutely loved The Seer. In the Tellaran Realm, Seers (persons with psychic
abilities) are executed simply for being born. Arissa's parents hid her existence
as soon as they detected her abilities as a child and continued to do so up
until they were killed in an accident. We meet Arissa eight months after their
deaths and the story begins with a literal bang as she saves Jolar from being
shot. Jolar's culture believes that you owe a great debt to one who has saved
your life. In trying to begin repaying his debt, he unknowingly puts her in
danger of being discovered and executed. From there we are taken on an
action-packed undercover assignment to find out who is attempting to grasp
power and take control of the realm (and I didn’t see it coming).
I
definitely enjoyed their interactions as Jolar introduced Arissa to the world
her parents hid her from. It was endearing to see his frustration over her reactions
melt as he learns about the things she's never done. Jolar seems to enjoy being
the first to introduce her to many things, yes, including sex. It should be
noted that The Seer is a romance, not erotica and while there are a few sex
scenes in the book, they are not graphic (hot, but not graphic). They are used
to illustrate the relationship development between the two as they fall in
love.
Lots of
romance and lots of action set in another universe makes The Seer a fabulous
sci-fi romance that has earned a spot on my re-read list. I will be checking
out Ms. MacArran’s other books that are set in the neighboring galaxy while I
await the next Tellaran novel.
Ariel MacArran has loved books and writing since childhood. Growing up
in New York City, her first self-published works (at 5) were made with
construction paper and yarn and featured original stories and
illustrations by the author. She holds a degree in English and a Masters
in Counseling. Ariel lives in Charleston, South Carolina with her
family.
